Officer Alex Howard with the Twin Falls Police Department got her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at Boise State, and was able to complete most of her classes in Twin Falls through the online program. “My Criminal Justice degree through Boise State University provided me with a first look at being a police officer. The classes and hands-on learning provided me with the proper knowledge to get to where I am now,” Alex said. “I am forever appreciative of my time with BSU and each class and professors who prepared me for real life experiences in my career to provide safety for the citizens in my community.” Stay tuned all month as we celebrate careers and education in Criminal Justice.

A couple of weeks ago, members Scott Stout, Alexys Jansen and Mikey Stanciu of the Alpha Phi Sigma (APS) Criminal Justice Honors Society, attended the APS annual conference in Denver, Colorado. The group placed 3rd in the college quiz bowl and Scott placed 2nd in the juvenile justice knowledge test. The students also attended conference mixers, listened to guest speakers, learned from other APS chapters and toured the Denver Crime Lab. Congratulations to these students!

Bailey (right) and Sara (left) are members of the Victim Witness Team at the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, providing support and resources to victims by working with police, attorneys, and community partners. Bailey began her career with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office in 2015, working in the Property + Evidence Department while attending Boise State. After realizing her passion for criminal justice, she changed her major. “Many of my Criminal Justice professors had careers in the field and taught classes in the evening. This worked out great for my schedule as it allowed me to keep my job and attend night classes,” Bailey said. “My professors were able to relay real world knowledge of the field as well as help me make professional connections in my career. I still interact with some of them professionally to this day.” After graduating in 2017, she became a Victim Witness Coordinator. When asked about her Criminal Justice degree, Sara said, “My degree provided a strong understanding of different aspects of the Criminal Justice field, from victimology and investigations to corrections. My supportive role is valuable in providing a roadmap to victims of crime as they navigate the Criminal Justice system.” Stay tuned all month as we celebrate careers and education in Criminal Justice.

???????????????? ???????????????? ?????????????? ?????????? There's so much you can do as a graduate of a criminal Justice degree program! Meet Katie, Kyle and Jordan, all members of the team at the Meridian Police Department. Katie Willis (picture 1) graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in 2016, and is now working for the Meridian Police Department as Senior Evidence Technician. "My experience in law enforcement has been shaped by the valuable connections and mentorship I gained through the internship program at Boise State," she said. "My education and training have enabled me to assist detectives and investigators in solving major crimes." Lieutenant Kyle Ludwig (picture 2) graduated with dual degrees in Criminal Justice and Political Science, contributing to "opportunities to be exposed to a variety of facets of the criminal justice system through coursework, job shadowing and internships." Kyle shared, "I see the benefit of my Criminal Justice degree on a daily basis, from my baseline knowledge of case law, refined communication and writing skills, my understanding of victimology and the effects policing has on different communities and my ability to comprehend the newest court decisions and precedents." Jordan Robinson (picture 3) is a graduate of Boise State's Psychology program with a focus in Criminal Justice, and she now works as the Public Information and Safety Officer for the Meridian Police and Fire Departments. "My experience working in the Victim Witness unit at Boise Police and currently as a Public Information Officer (PIO) for Meridian Police/Fire has been deeply rewarding....I see the value of my work in keeping the community informed and connected," said Jordan. "By providing clear, accurate information, I help foster trust between the community and law enforcement, contributing to public safety and awareness."
