Texas renters deserve fairness, stability, and due process. HB 32 threatens to strip those rights away. This bill would fast-track evictions, limit tenant protections, and make it harder for families to stay in their homes. ?? HB 32 isn’t about squatters. It’s about making it easier for landlords to evict tenants without warning or recourse. Housing is a human right. We cannot allow policies that increase homelessness, displacement, and housing instability in our communities.

Displacement is about about real families, real history, and real voices. That’s why our Right to Stay Anti-Displacement Toolkit includes a case study on South Dallas, developed with direct input from local residents, community leaders, and housing advocates. South Dallas is a neighborhood rich in culture and history, but rapid gentrification and rising housing costs are pushing families out. Through listening sessions, resident surveys, and on-the-ground research, we identified key challenges and real policy solutions to help long-time residents stay in their homes and build generational wealth. ?? In partnership with Builders of Hope Community Development Corporation, Wesley-Rankin is proud to offer the Property Tax Assistance Program (PTAP) to support longtime West Dallas residents at risk of displacement due to rising property taxes. This year, 90 households received assistance with their 2024 bills, providing a total of $81,757.92 in much-needed relief. Beyond PTAP, Wesley-Rankin is committed to equipping residents with the knowledge and resources to navigate homeownership and rental challenges. Through housing education classes, residents gain insights into financial literacy, estate planning, code compliance, home value appeals, and more—empowering them to protect their homes and plan for the future. Thanks to funders like Texas Capital, Wesley-Rankin can continue addressing the urgent housing needs of legacy West Dallas homeowners, ensuring they have the support to preserve their homes and stay engaged in the community.

A Right To Stay is more than a statement. It’s a belief that empowers neighborhood self determination, restores dignity to the most vulnerable, and gives value to what exists. This past Monday, our final report was presented to the Housing & Homeless committee. BOH is working with multiple dartments within city hall on how to best utilize our work to deliver real change to aged old systems.
