Today, personal and professional employee development are top priorities for 76 percent of C-suite executives and human capital leaders, according to Randstad Sourceright’s 2023 Talent Trends report, while internal mobility is a particular focus area for 82 percent of those surveyed in the report. A low-risk route to expand your skill set is to join professional associations that are relevant to your group, says executive recruiter and career coach Caroline Ceniza-Levine. “In the case of marketing, it actually might be a marketing association versus a fashion association, but then finding enough people who are in and around that industry. “It’s about being open to collaboration and ideas, whether it’s from an intern or your boss. It is very valuable when someone vouches for an idea and it’s very precious when someone shares an idea with you, so it’s important that you listen.” After completing a finance degree in Sydney, Jodie Chan's career pursuit led her across the globe to London where she had a brief education hiatus, before eventually ending up in New York as a fashion marketing student at Parsons School of Design. After graduating from Parsons in 2010, Chan landed her first job at social media agency WFG Media, which later merged with PR agency Syndicate to become the Syndicate Media Group, and counted Oscar de la Renta and Reed Krakoff as clients. Five years later, Chan met French-American designer Joseph Altuzarra in New York and they "immediately clicked." She held the title of director of marketing and communications at the New York-based womenswear label for over six years, which is stocked by the likes of MatchesFashion, Farfetch, Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys, and sold in over 30 countries worldwide. She is now VP of global marketing and communications at Carolina Herrera. “Sometimes with PR and marketing there is a reputation that we’re just all about talking and sharing a preconceived message. But you have to listen to other people’s perspective and respect their opinions, whether or not you agree with it. It has to be a give-and-take equation; it can’t just be, “Well, I’m giving information. Burnout has a detrimental impact on employees’ productivity, but also their ability to create and innovate. Stanford University research found that creativity disappears after working more than 55 hours a week — productivity drops to such an extent that putting in any more hours is pointless. “Creativity is a superpower […] and it’s also the first to go through work stresses because creativity feeds off of freedom and energy,” says Meredith Arthur, a chief of staff at Pinterest and author of Beautiful Voyager, who helped launch the app. “When we’re thinking a lot, we are using our executive attention network in our brain. While studying a BA in California at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Fanny Bourdette-Donon began working at denim brand Guilty Brotherhood, moving to New York with the company four years later. After the brand shut down following the economic crisis in 2008, Bourdette-Donon worked backstage at New York Fashion Week for Maybelline before meeting Jér?me Pulis, Dior Beauty’s international communications director, at a dinner in 2012. He offered her a job the next day. Bourdette-Donon worked at Dior Beauty for 12 years, most recently holding the role of head of special projects, through which she launched products and worked closely with the luxury house’s brand ambassadors.
