"Sustainable aviation fuel, or SAF, offers the largest potential to reduce aviation's life-cycle emissions. Southeast Asia has abundant feedstocks to meet all its jet fuel needs," said Penny Burtt, President of Boeing Southeast Asia. “To advance SAF adoption, we work locally to scale it globally. Partnerships within and outside the industry are crucial.” Burtt was a panelist at The Economist Impact Sustainability Week Asia in Bangkok this week, where she discussed how Boeing and the industry are working to reduce aviation’s impact on the planet while growing the societal and economic benefits of aerospace. In a flight first, #TeamBoeing completed the world's first quantum navigation flight test, in partnership with AOSense, HRL Laboratories and SandboxAQ. ? Awesome atoms: The test used a quantum-sensing technique called atom interferometry to detect rotation and acceleration using atoms, resulting in unparalleled navigational accuracy and precision. ? Star search: The test also used a daytime-capable star tracker and measurements from Earth's magnetic field to navigate. ? Showing success: The quantum sensors operated successfully through takeoff, multiple maneuvers and landing. ? Practical applications: Quantum navigation could support commercial and defense needs when GPS navigation isn't reliable. Get the full story: https://lnkd.in/e_CihFhT
