Today is the final day of heats in the Steer Automotive Group Refinishing Competition which has been running all week at the Axalta Refinish Academy in Welwyn Garden City. #bodyshopmag went along yesterday to meet some of the young apprentices and see the high standard of work they have been producing in a bid to reach next month's finals. As National Apprenticeship Week draws to a close, #bodyshopmag editor Simon Wait managed to catch the final day of heats for the Steer Automotive Group Apprentice Body Repair Competition at Emtec Colleges Limited yesterday. It was impressive to see the standard of work already being demonstrated by the young apprentices and also to see Steer group fully embrace apprenticeships during such an important week for our industry. Next week it's the turn of the apprentice paint technicians, and we'll be there as well to see the refinishing skills on display. Kapci Coatings has today announced that it will be sponsoring up-and-coming British racing driver Joseph Warhurst who will compete in the 2025 series of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland. The Barnsley-born 19-year-old, who has enjoyed considerable success in recent years, will drive for the Proton Huber Competition team in 16 races this year, starting at Imola in April. And the Kapci Coatings logo will be emblazoned across his Porsche 911 GT3 at every race. Warhurst said: "I am very, very thankful to Kapci Coatings for their support. I hope the partnership we start today will be a very long one and I hope we can make it together all the way to Le Mans, which is my dream and my long-term goal." The atypical international story that has connected an Egyptian paint company with a British driver, enabling him to compete in a German car in a German series at circuits dotted across Europe, is not lost on Kapci Coatings, which has a long heritage of motorsport sponsorship. Kapci's Khaled Sorour told #bodyshopmag: "We have for a long time supported young people who have a dream as well as empowering young women. We are a global company and Joe is a great fit for us and, I am confident, he will have great success this year."
