Rector Francesco Billari and Giovanni Malagò, President of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI ), have signed a framework #agreement that includes a wide range of initiatives, starting with the new #ExecutiveMaster in Business of Events (EMBE) at SDA Bocconi. The collaboration stems from a mutual interest in leveraging the upcoming #MilanCortina2026 #OlympicGames to create initiatives that extend beyond sports. This is an excellent opportunity to combine strengths in education, research, and community engagement to benefit leaders in the sports, entertainment, and exhibition industries.?In this interview, Professor Dino Ruta focuses on various aspects of the agreement. What are the key aspects of the agreement between Bocconi and Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, including its scope, concrete initiatives like the Executive Master, the main research components, and the advantages for both Bocconi and Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026? Three main initiatives are part of this agreement: Bocconi will #coordinate studies on the economic, social and environmental impacts of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics in synergy with other universities and entities from the local areas affected by the games; the launch of the executive post-experience #program across five cities (Lausanne, Milan, Paris, Riyadh and Rome); and support for identifying talents to join the Olympic organizational staff in various roles. What are the main aspects of the agreement regarding research? Bocconi will produce IOC-requested reports following OECD guidelines, focusing on the legacy projects of the Italian Winter Olympics, and will implement data collection and dissemination strategies. Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 will facilitate exchanges and discussions between Bocconi, its staff, the IOC and other Olympic stakeholders, including the OECD and the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee. This agreement aligns with Bocconi's #thirdMission to engage with local communities and institutions, aiming to provide concrete data on the Olympic impacts to contribute to international impact measurement standards by the OECD and IOC, and reinforcing Bocconi's learning-oriented approach and collaboration with top international institutions.

The constant presence of #alumnae and #alumni around the world has played an important role in the University's #internationalization strategy. The journey began in 1906, with the creation of ALUB – the first association of Bocconi graduates – which has transformed into the Bocconi Alumni Community of today. The network community is led by Silvia Candiani, Bocconi alumna and Vice President of Telco and Media at Microsoft, and boasts over 145,000 members all over the world, organized into 75 chapters and 13 topic groups. ? Community members promote Bocconi’s values in their local areas and give a lifeline back to the community. As Antonella Caru, Dean for Development and Alumni Relations, points out: “In addition to fostering the #development of professional and personal relationships among its members, the community is active in many crucial areas – from #fundraising and students’ support, to the development of #mentoring activities. It has supported the University in the internationalization process, facilitating placement opportunities and initiatives dedicated to attracting the finest international students.” ? 1) Francesca Coloni, a 1997 CLEFIN graduate, is now the COO of Citi's US Personal Banking Analytics division in New York. She has been deeply involved with the Bocconi Alumni Community, initially as treasurer in Madrid and now as the leader of the #NewYork chapter, which has about 200 active members. Under her leadership, the chapter launched a mentorship program and plans to introduce a reverse mentorship program to foster intergenerational connections. ? 2) Silvia Cocciolillo, leader of the #Dublin chapter since 2021 and EMEA Regional Lead, emphasizes the impact of Bocconi communities on local areas. In Ireland, where members primarily come from the tech, finance, legal, and startup sectors, the chapter fosters a strong sense of belonging and cross-sector collaborations. Silvia notes the importance of events with the Italian Ambassador and Cultural Institute in strengthening ties between Italy and Ireland. ? 3) Stefano Ortolina has lived and worked in #Shanghai for almost 15 years and is now a Partner at Infinity Group. He has led the Shanghai chapter, the largest in Asia, and has seen its impact grow. The chapter has developed strong relationships with local Italian institutions and companies, facilitating continuous learning and connections among alumni and alumnae with the local community. ? Therefore, the Bocconi communities play an important role in bringing Bocconi to the world – including career service activities, continuous learning, and the creation of connections between community and territory. It is a role that only a widespread presence on all continents can ensure.
