A resilient rail network is a strong rail network! When you're operating 24/7 on 32,500 route miles of track in multiple climates, the unexpected can happen -- but we proactively invest in our network so we're ready to spring into action, restore service quickly and keep the freight moving. This year we'll spend $3.8 billion on capital investments, including $2.84 billion to maintain our infrastructure. Steps we're taking to keep our network resilient for our customers include: ?? Track lifting, to protect against flooding ?? Slope armoring and stabilization, to resist erosion ?? Slide fences, to protect track from landslides and falling rock ?? Fuel cells, to provide temporary power for signal and crossing systems ?? More than 200 emergency responders recently took part in a large-scale hazardous materials training exercise on the Alameda Corridor, a 20-mile freight rail “expressway” connecting Southern California ports with BNSF. BNSF helped organize the drill, which included several emergency scenarios. Agencies that participated included the Los Angeles, LA County, Compton, Downey and Long Beach fire departments. The simulation gave responders an opportunity to hone their skills in responding to a hypothetical train-related hazmat situation. #freight #rail #safety #hazmat #California

BNSF customers invested more than $4.2 billion in projects on our network in 2024, creating more than 1,000 new jobs in local communities! Significant investments were made from supply chain partners and customers, including CJ Logistics America, Hudson Asphalt Terminal (HAT), and Bakersfield Renewable Fuels (BKRF). Last year’s investments are the largest BNSF customers and local economic development organizations have made in new or expanded facilities in the past six years. BNSF announced today that members of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division (BMWED) have voted to ratify a new five-year collective bargaining agreement with the Class I railroad, giving covered employees certainty about upcoming enhancements to their pay, health care, and vacation. BMWED is the largest rail union to date to ratify a national agreement in the 2025 bargaining round. With this news, BNSF has reached ratified agreements with eight labor unions. Roughly 40% of BNSF’s union workforce is now covered under those agreements. #BNSFRailway #freightrail #railroad #BNSF

Encouraging news on the safety front! Investments in innovation, infrastructure and expertise by railroads continue to make the industry safer, according to data from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). 2024 was the second consecutive year for a record-low injury rate in the industry. Injuries and fatalities for Class I railroads have fallen 46% since 2005. The industry-wide train accident rate declined by 15 percent year over year, and derailments have fallen by 40% since 2005.
