Not only does this benefit our plant, but also the strong supplier network in the region.” The BMWs assembled at Plant Spartanburg were exported primarily through the Port of Charleston, SC, as well as through four additional ports: Brunswick, GA; Jacksonville, FL; Everglades, FL; and Baltimore, MD. Nearly 15,000 BMWs were exported via rail.?The top export markets from Plant Spartanburg were Germany, South Korea, China, Canada, and Great Britain. ? “When the first BMW rolled off the assembly line in 1994, it was the beginning of a great legacy for Plant Spartanburg in the United States. Our dedicated associates have assembled nearly seven million BMWs, and because of our export success, millions of customers around the world experience the innovative technology and premium quality of our X vehicles,” said Dr. Robert Engelhorn, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing. ? Nearly 57 percent of its vehicles are shipped to about 120 global markets, making BMW the largest automotive exporter by value in the United States for more than a decade. In 2024, nearly 50 percent of BMW vehicles sold in the U.S. came from Plant Spartanburg. "South Carolina's position as a stronghold for the United States' automotive industry can be traced directly to BMW's success in our state. The BMW models assembled at Plant Spartanburg are in global demand — shipping to markets around the world,” said South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster. “We are proud to have a company as committed to the prosperity of its community, the success of its employees, and the innovation of its industry right here in South Carolina. Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management BMW AG, along with members of the BMW Manufacturing team, visited the South Carolina state capitol this week. During the visit, the State Senate and the House of Representatives formally recognized BMW Manufacturing for 30 years of contributions to South Carolina. ? Mr. Zipse received a warm welcome and gratitude from both bodies of the General Assembly for the 30-year partnership between BMW Manufacturing and the state. Notably, this was the first time a BMW Chairman was present in the gallery of the Senate Chamber for such a recognition. ? The Senate resolution was presented by Spartanburg Senator Roger Nutt and the Spartanburg delegation. Nutt remarked, “We bet on a company known as BMW, and it proved to be a game-changing win for Spartanburg and South Carolina.” ? A similar resolution was presented in the House of Representatives by Murrell Smith, Speaker of the House, and Bruce Bannister, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, along with other upstate legislators. ? Governor Henry McMaster also presented Mr. Zipse with the Honorary Sandlapper Award, a significant honor that highlights BMW Manufacturing's impact on the state and expresses gratitude for significant contributions by individuals not from South Carolina. ? During his visit to South Carolina, Mr. Zipse met with the BMW Manufacturing team, just over two years after he shared the BMW Group announcement of a $1.7 billion investment in U.S. operations. This included $1 billion to prepare Plant Spartanburg for electric vehicle assembly and $700 million for building the new high-voltage battery assembly plant in Woodruff, SC. ? Mr. Zipse also observed the construction progress at Plant Woodruff. Once completed in 2026, this plant will assemble high-voltage batteries for fully electric vehicles assembled at BMW Manufacturing. By 2030, at least six fully electric models will be assembled at the plant. ? Additionally, Mr. Zipse toured the newly completed $200 million, 219,000-square-foot Press Shop, which opened on June 21, 2024. This innovative facility is a first for BMW in North America, and it further strengthens BMW's local manufacturing footprint in the U.S. ? #BMWManufacturing #PlantSpartanburg #BMWGroup #Teamworkbuiltthis
