Blymyer highlights BESS fire safety precautions The January 16th, 2025 fire?at the Moss Landing Energy Storage Facility in Monterey Bay, California—one of the world’s largest BESS facilities—has raised health and safety concerns among some of the area’s residents. Investigations into the cause of the fire are still underway, and state utility investigators and energy experts are advising against overreaction. Researchers have found an increase in heavy metals in the soil near the facility, but no hazardous air conditions have yet been detected. https://lnkd.in/gfty_7-J

Blymyer is engineering a landmark Turlock water conservation project As the Western states continue to face water shortages, a growing number of municipalities are looking at?an innovative approach to water conservation: installing solar-paneled canopies over canals and reservoirs to transform the sun’s rays into electricity before they hit the water as well as reduce evaporation. One such effort, Project Nexus, is being undertaken in the Turlock Irrigation District on a small canal stretch southwest of Keyes, California in Stanislaus County. Blymyer is engineering the project, working in collaboration with Solar Aquagrid, a Berkley-based water conservation advocacy firm and the California Department of Water Resources. The project is well underway. Half of the 1,440 solar panels that have been earmarked for the installation are already in place, and power is scheduled to begin this year. https://lnkd.in/gFHA9Z4u

At Blymyer Engineers, we pride ourselves on being a leading electrical engineering firm with expertise in end-to-end renewable energy services. Our comprehensive offerings include solar, storage, substation, EV charging, and wind projects, covering everything from analysis and feasibility studies to engineering design. Blymyer Engineers has engineered over 18GW of solar energy projects and has expanded our services to 43 states. ? The Solar Energy Industries Association has set an ambitious target for 2030: to achieve a total of 700 GWh of installed battery capacity across all market segments, along with 10 million distributed storage installations. Achieving these targets will require coordinated policy action at the federal, state, and local levels to fully realize the potential of energy storage nationwide. ? Blymyer Engineers is proud to be part of this mission and is committed to contributing to these goals. https://lnkd.in/gycDxKV9

A promising new trend: Pairing EV charging with solar+storage While the U.S. is working to electrify the transportation sector in an effort to move toward a clean energy future, a number of hurdles remain, most notably the reliability, accessibility, and sustainability of EV charging systems. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program has allocated $5 billion over the next five years for states to deploy a nationwide, interconnected network of EV chargers along thousands of miles of highways. California currently leads the country in the push for EV transportation, but the success of this initiative will depend, in part, on the viability of the grid to be able to handle the rise of EVs and the necessary EV charging infrastructure (EVCI) to support it. https://lnkd.in/gANv-FJD

Custom automation software ensures speed and accuracy for Blymyer projects Proprietary automation software, customized by Blymyer and working in conjunction with auto-CAD, helps to streamline various job functions and calculations for our engineers, designers and drafters. Handling the massive volume of data our firm needs to process—to monitor equipment, track and manage costs, make design adjustments, develop schedules, etc.—is time-consuming and labor-intensive. The use of automation technology helps to reduce time-consuming manual processes and errors. https://lnkd.in/gpbSJVa7
