Transpacific freight rates continue to soften, with West Coast rates declining by over 14% last week and East Coast rates dropping more than 10%. This downward trend may weaken carriers' position in the upcoming May 1 contract negotiations, particularly as cargo volumes remain sluggish and capacity reductions have not been implemented. As a result, the planned April 1 price increase (GRI) of $1,000 per FEU is now uncertain. At the same time, space constraints persist in certain corridors, especially from China, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand, as well as outbound from Asia/China to the Gulf/Houston region.
