Blue Whale Materials LLC (BWM) is proud to announce we have received a contracted grant award of $55 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s (DOE) DOE Manufacturing & Energy Supply Chains Office (MESC) under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing Program. This grant supports a $110 million expansion initiative that will increase the processing capacity of our state-of-the-art Bartlesville, OK facility to up to 50,000 tons of battery feedstock annually. The expanded operations will convert 3.5x more end-of-life batteries and production scrap into Blacksand?, a high-purity, dry, mixed-metal precursor, producing enough Blacksand? to power over 100,000 EVs annually. The expansion is expected to create 150 permanent jobs and 180 construction jobs, boosting local employment in Bartlesville and contributing to the state's sustainable growth. Approximately $3M of the grant will go towards workforce development and community outreach through expanded partnership programs with The Delaware Tribe of Indians, Blue Star Recyclers, Tri County Tech, and James Emmett and Company. Special thanks to the entire Blue Whale Team for the work in getting this award finalized and to the great support from Ara Partners in the effort.
