The world is entering a?new era increasingly dominated by electricity, the International Energy Agency said. The agency sees electricity demand?rising six times faster?than overall energy consumption between 2023 and 2035, while it was already growing twice the pace of overall energy demand over the last decade, IEA's new "world energy outlook" finds. Faster growth looms as the world moves toward EVs, wider use of AC and other appliances, and electrification of commercial buildings and industries. IEA boss Fatih Birol, in a statement, said the "Age of Coal" and "Age of Oil" have defined energy history. "We're now moving at speed into the Age of Electricity, which will define the global energy system going forward and increasingly be based on clean sources of electricity." It is becoming all the more important to increase utilization of the electric energy storage. As battery industry continues to innovate, and high energy density batteries enable electrification of transport and industrial production, it is important to preserve natural resources and curb emissions from manufacturing new batteries. Second-life battery use in various applications is already a smart improvement of operating efficiency, but it should be a part of a routine battery life-cycle planning, rather than ingenuity of business executives.
