What an incredible gathering at The White Oak Collaborative Luncheon, hosted on October 10th at The Army & Navy Club! We were honored to have Terri Tanielian, Special Assistant to the President for Veterans Affairs, as our guest speaker. Her insights, viewed through a Veteran-focused lens, sparked dynamic conversations about the challenges facing military and Veteran-connected communities. It was also a pleasure to welcome Mrs. Andrea Ruiz, spouse of SMMC Carlos Ruiz, whose presence highlighted the importance of including military families in these crucial discussions. A big thank you to the Board of Oversight: Pete Jeffries, Michael Meese, Michael Jordan, Margaret (Meg) Harrell, Ph.D., Eric Eversole, Steven Schwab, Donna Hoffmeier, Kathy Roth-Douquet, and Jose Ramos for hosting this impactful event, and to our members and special guests who contributed to the thoughtful dialogue. Together, we're driving meaningful solutions for those who serve or have served our country and their families!

Military families face significant challenges, as revealed by Blue Star Families' 2023 Military Family Lifestyle Survey. In his Forbes article, ACP Board Member @Tom Bostick highlights that only 32% of families would recommend military service, underscoring the need for greater support. At ACP, we’re proud to provide mentorship that empowers Veterans and Military Spouses to transition successfully. Together with BSF and our partner companies, we’re committed to strengthening military families and securing a brighter future. EPISODE 17 | Women's Contributions To Our National Defense This episode is all about the many contributions women have made to our national defense and how the military services are changing to better leverage the full talents of the American people. Leading off, Joe speaks with U.S. Marine Corps attack helicopter pilot and combat veteran, Katey van Dam (1:33). Katey deployed in support of combat operations in Afghanistan and counter-piracy operations in the Horn of Africa/Gulf of Aden. She also co-founded No Exceptions, an initiative that led the effort to get the Department of Defense to allow women to compete for jobs in the infantry, artillery, tanks, combat engineers and other previously closed military occupational specialties (MOSs). Next, Ellen chats with Army veteran Phyllis Wilson (14:05) who served 37 years in the Army as a Military Intelligence Voice Intercept Operator. Phyllis has served around the globe and has deployed to Iraq several times as an Intelligence Analyst with Special Ops. She now leads the efforts of the Military Women's Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery - whose mission is to capture and tell the stories of the many women who have defended our country. Lastly, Lindsay Knight (43:15) of Blue Star Families joins us for a discussion on what her organization is doing to strengthen the military community.
