We had a great time at NYC Climate Week! We left the city energized and inspired by the incredibly talented entrepreneurs working on game-changing solutions. With over 900 events, it was impossible to attend everything. Here are our teams top 5 takeaways from the events we went to: ?? Adaptation isn’t an emerging theme, we’re living in it: SJF Ventures Adapting to a Changing Climate underscored the importance of investing in resilience and adaptation, and the harsh reality that we are fighting for a world after 2050. ?? There is a level of technology lock-in that has already occurred which sets the parameters we can innovate around. (Have you noticed how many solutions seek to fit within a ‘shipping container’?) ?? Deeptech solutions are not niche: Newlab hosted countless innovators at their Brooklyn facility — from nuclear fusion to bio-based metals and electric pulse drilling. Activate also held a fantastic showcase of their fellows with fascinating solutions in energy, industrial, and carbon tech. ?? Biotech + Climate tech – We are impressed by the rapid growth in the bio-economy (strong suit for NC!). Thank you to the The Biomimicry Institute and the newly launched Juniper for showcasing some impressive nature-based and climate biotech startups, and hosting some wonderful networking events.? ???? Climate + Health? – The healthcare sector accounts for 8.5% of U.S. emissions. Thank you to Luminary Labs for a fascinating cross-industry panel which included a discussion not only of the health impacts of climate change, but the health care sector's impact on climate.? Finally, a shout out to our NC startups! It was great to see Mary Lempres present at the Biomimicry Institute’s 2024 Ray of Hope Accelerator event, and run into Brian Worfolk and Kathryn Polkoff, PhD! #climateweeknyc #climatetech #deeptech #climatebiotech #climateadaptation #climateresilience #entrepreneurship #innovation
