Our clinical leaders have been working to launch this EEG study for months. It’s very exciting to see the progress Tim and the other UD researchers are making. The unique arrangement of services and supports in the Chapters Program provides an opportunity to measure the impact of care across a wide range of participant life domains. Insights like these are vital to the success of integrated programs that combine evidence-based therapy with a recovery-oriented approach.
I had the opportunity to stop by the Mount Joy counseling center and touch base with Tim McCoy, a Doctoral Student in the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Delaware (and my brilliant younger brother), to discuss the progress he’s making in a clinical study that’s been running at the facility since February 1st. ? The study broadly aims to explore the interplay between emotion and motivation in individuals exhibiting high levels of impulsivity. Tim’s team employs electroencephalography (EEG) to investigate neural correlates associated with impulsivity, where they hope to identify links between individuals’ personality traits and their recovery progression. ? We’re thrilled to partner with UD to conduct this research, and I’m eager to see how the data will inform immediate improvements in the delivery of care at The Chapters Program, and contribute to the wider push for evidence-based care across the SUD treatment field.
