I am so proud of the care that our BluePearl Pet Hospital team has provided to Twixie and am glad to hear that she is home and recovering. Our Associates provide industry leading specialty and emergency veterinary care to pets every day and I am so thankful for all their tireless work to ensure we create A Better World for Pets.
It never stops to amaze me the level of specialty care we have these days available to improve the lives of our pets.?As you may remember from a previous post, our dear Twixie has been receiving ongoing rehabilitation treatment at a?BluePearl Pet Hospital. Recently, she needed some additional help from the surgical team for a torn ligament in one of her knees — an injury similar to an ACL tear in humans. The BluePearl Pet Hospital team utilized arthroscopy, which is a specialized tool for minimally invasive surgery, allowing the surgeon to visualize her joint and treat?her?damaged?cartilage through keyhole surgery. Instability of the knee joint leads to damage and destruction of the cartilage and bones. The team levelled the shin bone and stabilized her knee joint, reducing pain and restoring function.?This is done by making a semicircular cut through the top of the tibia, much like half a smiley face, rotating the top of the tibia, and using a metal bone plate to allow the tibia to heal in its new position. Finally, Twixie’s joints were injected with a special hydrogel to provide cushion for her severely arthritic elbows.? I’m pleased to report that our brave girl, as also known at home as Lady Twixie, ?is recovering well?and?thanks to the exceptional care she received at BluePearl Pet Hospital she?will be back to her normal lifestyle in no time!
