At BluePearl, every day brings moments of hope and healing, but some stories really stand out. Meet Riggs, a resilient Jack Russell Terrier who spent 30 days in our Golden Valley, MN, hospital battling tetanus. Thanks to the dedication of our skilled doctors and care teams—along with support from BluePearl Cares, which provided HOPE Funds so that Riggs could receive the care he needed—Riggs was finally feeling better and able to go home! Celebrating his discharge was more than just a victory for Riggs and his owners; it was a moment that reflected the expertise, teamwork and compassion that define our hospitals. And now, Riggs is back home, happily resuming his guard duties—barking at people and squirrels in the yard just like before! I'm starting this week filled with gratitude. Today, I’m honored to share one of the most inspiring recovery stories from our team at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Golden Valley, MN. Every day, we care for critically ill patients. Thanks to our specialties' combined expertise and our skilled team's unwavering dedication, we turn challenges into remarkable recoveries. One story that truly stands out is that of Riggs, a resilient Jack Russell Terrier. Riggs spent 30 long days in our hospital battling tetanus. Celebrating his discharge was more than a victory for Riggs; it was a testament to the power of teamwork and compassionate care. ??Voorhees, NJ The Animal Welfare Association is an animal welfare organization that currently operates the oldest and largest low-cost spay/nueter clinic, adoption center and no-kill animal shelter in South Jersey. This spectaular team recently hired more veterinarians and were in need of essential equipment so their team could maximize the impact they could make in their community.?????? BluePearl Cares granted funding through our Veterinary Medical Equipment Grant program for the Animal Welfare Association to purchase crucial equipemnt, which will ultimately impact more than 17,000 pets in the Southern New Jersey area.???? Giving back is at the heart of veterinary medicine, and Jen Cook, CVT, a patient care training coordinator at BluePearl Pet Hospital Tampa, embodies that spirit. Through BluePearl Cares, she has had the opportunity to help pets in need while also sharing her knowledge along the way.?? ? A moment that stuck with her: Jen shared, “On my first trip with BluePearl Cares, which was scheduled as a preventive care trip, the first patient to arrive, before we even unpacked, was a puppy that had been attacked by another dog. I was the only vet tech with ER experience to be able to jump in and start working on that puppy.” But Jen shares that it’s not only the heroics that make an impact. She said, “When I visited the Bahamas Humane Society in Nassau, I spent time teaching foundations to the technicians working there and working side-by-side in the shelter practicing those skills. I never got tired of seeing the 'lightbulb' moment when a new concept is learned, or the look of triumph when they accomplish a new skill.” ?? What she took away from the experience: “One of my major passions lie with teaching, I am a training coordinator for BluePearl. As one person, I can only make so much difference, but when I teach, and share my knowledge and skills, my impact can be exponential. That's what I love about the Care Corp, not just delivering care, but elevating vet med everywhere.” She also shared a favorite quote that perfectly captures her passion: “The meaning of life is to find your gift. One of our favorite highlights of 2024 was when a pair of incredible BluePearl Pet Hospital Licensed Technicians volunteered their time through our BluePearl Cares Care Corps program to help pets near Sheep Springs, NM. These volunteers partnered with Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab to provide care to animals living in the Native American reservations of the Four Corners region.??? During this trip, the BluePearl Cares Care Corps volunteers supported the spaying/neutering services for 81 dogs and cats, completed seven other life changing surgical procedures, treated 45 sick/injured animals, and visited 67 pets in their homes during a door-to-door outreach – including a goat with a leg injury!???? To complete the trip, this team treated an additional 246 animals at the weekend vaccination clinic?? Thank you to this amazing group of volunteers for impacting hundreds of animals on Navajo Nation.?????? Volunteering with BluePearl Cares left Madison Gerszewski, BSc, CVT, a veterinary technician at BluePearl Clearwater, feeling more fulfilled than she could have imagined. ?? Why she got involved: Madison shared, “My longtime friend, Ashli, informed me of the incredible experience she had at a previous BluePearl Cares volunteer trip, and once I heard what a positive impact she had and the response from the community, I knew I had to participate. I had always wanted to make a positive impact on my community with the skills I have.” ? The impact on her journey: “I had the privilege to volunteer with BluePearl Cares at UnderDog Rescue in Navajo Nation. At first glance, I saw a community in the middle of nowhere with little to no resources nearby. However, after just the first house we provided veterinary care to, I was able to witness the beauty of a community coming together and supporting one another. I saw people who gave what they could to care for their animals. We had a massive line of cars and people lined up outside of our clinic each day, patiently waiting to get their pets care. I witnessed a beautiful community come together with pure, unselfish care for one another, including all their pets. I will never forget what an overwhelming sense of fulfilment I felt from this experience.” Her passion for helping pets and people shines through in everything she does. At BluePearl Cares, our mission is to help make emergency and specialty veterinary care accessible to all. One of the ways we fulfill this mission is by deploying volunteer veterinary professionals to under-resourced communities with limited to no access to veterinary care, as well as those impacted by disaster. In 2024, BluePearl Cares Care Corps program helped 11 communities in need, providing care to more than 31,500 pets within these communities. ?? BluePearl Pet Hospital Associate volunteers contributed 810 hours to provide support to communities, people, and pets in need. ?? Take a look at this good boy! This dashing lad is Oliver from South Carolina, and he was a BluePearl Cares HOPE Fund recipient this past year.???? Oliver was on a walk when his owner began to realize he was continually coughing. Despite the other dogs in the house appearing fine, Oliver was not eating and was showing signs of increased respiratory rate. Oliver’s owners decided to take him into the BluePearl Pet Hospital in Charlestown. Oliver’s owners were concerned about paying for the care Oliver needed, but thankfully this BluePearl Pet Hospital team helped Oliver’s owners apply for BluePearl Cares HOPE Funds to alleviate some of this financial burden. Oliver is now feeling better and back home with his family!???? Donations to BluePearl Cares helps provide some financial assistance to income-qualifying owners with pets facing emergency situations.
