This month, CMS reported findings from the Accountable Health Communities (AHC) demonstration project, evaluating whether connecting Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries to community resources for health-related social needs (HRSNs) improved care and reduced costs. The study found reductions in: ? ??overall healthcare expenditures, ??emergency department visits, and ??hospital stays. ? Notably, these findings were more pronounced for underserved racial and ethnic groups. Having the privilege of implementing this model in one of the participating health systems, we witnessed the powerful impact of screening and navigation services in addressing healthcare barriers and promoting health equity. ??????The 2024?America’s Health Rankings Health of Women & Children Report?offers insight into the health trends shaping the lives of women and children across the U.S. While some progress has been made, the report highlights several urgent areas for improvement. Here are the key takeaways: ???Maternal Health Crisis: Maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity have risen, and?clinical care measures for women’s health have fallen short of?Healthy People 2030?goals. ???Rising Chronic Conditions: We’re seeing increases in chronic conditions like asthma, obesity, and depression among women, along with a rise in drug-related deaths. ???Mixed Trends for Children: While teen suicide rates have decreased, progress is offset by rising child mortality rates and worsening mental health conditions among children. ???Health Disparities: Health outcomes vary widely across states, emphasizing the need for tailored, localized solutions to address these health challenges. The report stresses that improving the health of women and children will require a?collaborative, multi-pronged approach—focusing on prevention, implementing data-driven programs, addressing social determinants, and creative partnerships to reach women and children where they live, work, learn, and play. BIA is committed to supporting, reinforcing and energizing our colleagues across the country who engage in making healthcare better for kids and families every. single. day.
Last week at the Children’s Hospital Association conference I was reminded at every turn how quickly our industry is changing, and why its more important than ever to protect those that often don't have a voice. Kudos to the CHA team for again bring forth phenomenal keynote speakers, and harnessing the sharing power of some of the best innovators across the country. A few of the highlights: ??Huggy Roa, co-author of The Friction Project was a champion -- "think of yourself as a trustee of other people's time" -- vs being a time thief! ?? Our colleagues at The Hospital for Sick Children encouraged us to use CoPilot - everywhere, everyday, to get used to AI being a part of leading. Tip: try using it to simulate & practice tough conversations (clinical or personnel related). ?? Children's Nebraska highlighted how incentive alignment and prioritization led to fewer initiatives, a higher success rate, and a more futuristic view of change. ?? As we look at 5 generations in the workforce, Jason Dorsey reminded us that EVERY generation is valuable and needs to be valued for what they bring to the table. To my colleagues leading the amazing work, keep up the good stuff! I love leading with you all! #kidsfirst #courageandcuriosity #innovation

Many thanks to the WI Hospital Association and the WI Center for Professional Education & Development for giving me the opportunity share thoughts on The Evolving Role of AI – for Healthcare Leaders & Healthcare. Kudos to my co-presenter Cody Baldwin! We can’t afford to be static in this domain – we must at least have minimal baseline knowledge; for personal productivity, to understand/span generational talent gaps, to assess and address operational/productivity gaps, and to guide our organizations strategically. #innovation #curiouscourage #hospitalleadership #ai #play #emtelligent #cylerity #canvasdx
