As a care manager, Cheryl describes herself as a “ferocious bull” when it comes to supporting our members. She works hard to help each of them access resources and get the care they deserve. When she first reached out to our member, Leo, he was in the hospital and she had to communicate through his wife. Since English is not their first language, the family struggled to communicate with their primary care doctor and they were having difficulty getting a prescription for Leo’s diabetes medication, causing his A1C levels to rise dangerously high. When Cheryl stepped in, she not only got Leo his medication but also connected him with nutrition resources - all which helped lower his A1C. “The family depended on me as their advocate connecting with their doctor, and we formed a strong relationship. Sometimes I have to be the momma to our members.” Cheryl is on the Blue Cross NC Healthcare, Care Management team. In 2024, our Blue Xchange mentorship program celebrated its 26th anniversary year with over 80 mentorships and 150+ participants. ??Our mentors gave meaningful career advice to their mentees over the six-month program, provided them with learning opportunities, opened doors, removed barriers and made connections for them across the company. ??Our mentoring pairs were tasked to meet at least five times 1:1 over the course of the 6-month program and attend four professional development events on the topics of Change Enablement, Influencing Virtually, Confidence Building [Growth Mindsets & Imposter Syndrome, Public Speaking, Presenting, Strategic Storytelling], and Brand importance.

We were so proud to support #ConcertForCarolina with the Blue Cross NC Heroes Section and give free tickets to the NC Firefighters Association, NC Sheriffs Association, American Red Cross of NC, Pike Electric, Diaper Bank of NC, & Feeding the Carolinas. It's a small way we can say thank you to these incredible heroes for their hard work and dedication to showing up for our state not just today, but every single day. Time and again, North Carolina’s colleges and universities help our communities through crisis situations. Now it’s time for us all to step up and help them. Hurricane Helene took a serious toll on three public universities and 14 community colleges, disrupting services and resources that students, faculty, and staff depend on. https://lnkd.in/e-Da7VqK

We loved joining this group for SAS Women’s Day! It was our 8th year hosting this inspiring day focused on empowering women and fostering meaningful connections. Together, we enjoyed discussions and networking opportunities. With speakers like Molly Grantham and our own, Colleen Briggs, we learned valuable insights on leadership, success and failure, and the importance of focusing on our wellbeing and mindset.

We teamed up with volunteers from the Durham County Sheriff's Office and police departments from Wake Forest, Garner, and Cary to pack over 500 Kits4Kids! These special kits help first responders comfort children during tough situations, making a stressful moment a little easier and building stronger connections with the community. The kits will be used on calls and shared throughout the community. We were even able to send some to the Asheville Police Department.
