Bluebeard is proud to debut our new roasting facility, cafe and HQ at 5428 S Tacoma Way in a century old converted furniture warehouse and showroom. Three years in the making, this project offered us complex solutions at every stage, ultimately replacing every major system within. And we have lots of people to thank, without whom this space does not get finished, permitted and open for business. Thank you to Ferguson Architects, who delivered us a beautiful vision and were instrumental in navigating the permitting process, jumping in again and again when I needed guidance. My highest recommendation to this homegrown company and people. Big thanks to Mitchel Plumbing. Charly and Kevin and co we’re on site throughout, re-plumbing and piping and for both water and gas in phase after phase of development. They feel like friends at this point. Splinter and Slag built our coffee bar, partitions, cafe table and inside bar seating. Robb and Dana and crew are fantastic, fun to work with and super professional. One look at their deep book of completed spaces and projects will convince you. Thanks for staying with us, fellas. Brien, The Tacoma Electrician’s work speaks for itself. The river of conduit so artfully bent on our walls turned a necessity into modernist art. He brought in expanded 3-phase power and help troubleshoot a tricky roastery build. So thankful. A longtime collaborator at 6th Ave and my own home, Matt Dunn and Alpha Railing were on hand for nearly everything else. Framing, venting, our roof penetration for roaster ventilation, all the mezzanine takings and outside seating, and a whole lot more. It’s more than a railings company, working with me to solve for x, y and z throughout. Flying Colors painted things well. Jake Sells figured out a cool floor coverings and lots more. Ryan Spence brainstormed with me early on and found our now restored window panels that make up our cafe and roastery partition down at the old Maritime Center and Museum in Thea Foss. My co-workers put up with me and pitched in instrumentally, hat tip to Jai Sirgedas, our operations manager, for taking on so many equipment installations. Our wholesale roasting team for enduring the long road and getting to the end — Magdalena, Sam and Hayli ftw! And of course my family. Annie Philipsen stayed! She got the bird's eye view of a man exploring his breaking point maybe a half dozen times. Annie and Wolfie are the whole thing. And here we are! Exceeding proud to have arrived at this point, with still many challenges ahead. If we can do this, we can do that. We’ll keep working, knowing what our community needs and deserves from us. The coffees great. Come on by and see us, or reach out about the wholesale coffee coming out of this gorgeous new Probat UG22 coffee roaster. The roasting space is why we started this thing in the first place. Thanks for reading, Kevin McGlocklin Bluebeard Coffee Roasters
