This Halloween, we embraced the spirit of community and cultural heritage by celebrating both Halloween and Día de los Muertos! ??Our team came together to honor our departed loved ones with a beautiful altar displaying their pictures, reminding us of the importance of remembrance and connection. Many of our employees got into the festive spirit by dressing up in creative costumes, adding to the fun atmosphere. We also enjoyed a delicious potluck, showcasing a variety of dishes that reflected our diverse backgrounds. Despite a challenging year for our pear crop, the spirit of innovation and optimism remains strong among our 70 plus dedicated grower-members.?These are pictures of our "New Pear Planting Orchard Tour," bringing together our growers and horticulturists to explore the future of pear cultivation in the Cashmere/Wenatchee River Valley.?Looking forward to the Future! While this year's crop may be smaller, the enthusiasm for the future of pear growing in our community is stronger than ever. Our growers continue to invest in new plantings, demonstrating their commitment to the industry and their confidence in Blue Star Growers' cooperative model. As we've done for over 100 years, Blue Star Growers remains dedicated to supporting our family farms and producing the highest quality pears. It’s our favorite time of year, when a fresh crop of USA Pears has matured in the orchards of Oregon and Washington! Harvest is underway in the shadows of pacific northwest volcanic peaks, and we’re celebrating the crews who are busy climbing up special three-legged ladders to carefully pick each pear by hand. Wearing bags that weigh up to 40 pounds, the pickers place each hand-picked pear in their bags, then gently transfer the fruit into bins specially designed to prevent bruising. Once full, the bins are transported to a nearby packing facility where the pears are washed and sorted before being stored in cold rooms where they wait for shipment. Sweet, juicy and fiber-rich pears are a tasty snack by themselves, but the versatile pear is always the star of a recipe at any time of day. What a fantastic day at Blue Star Growers! ??We had a very successful first day of production running Starkrimson pears, and to celebrate, we treated our amazing team to delicious tacos compliments of a gracious vendor. ??Additionally, we received beautiful loads of Bartlett pears! Life is good at Blue Star Growers, and we’re excited for what’s to come! ????
