Flooding and Water Safety: Floodwaters can contain contaminants and hazardous materials. Avoid wading through floodwaters whenever possible. If you must walk through flooded areas, ensure you wear protective clothing, including boots. Preventive Action: Avoid drinking or using tap water unless local authorities confirm it is safe. Boil water before consumption if there is any doubt about contamination. 2. Mold and Indoor Air Quality: Following water damage in homes or businesses, mold can develop within 24 to 48 hours. Mold exposure may lead to respiratory issues, especially for individuals with asthma, allergies, or other respiratory conditions. Preventive Action: Clean and dry out buildings and personal belongings as soon as it is safe. Use protective gear when cleaning mold or consult a professional. 3. Mental Health and Well-being: The stress of natural disasters can impact mental health. It is important to check in with family, friends, and neighbors during and after the storm. Food and Water Safety: Power outages may affect food safety in homes. Preventive Action: Discard any perishable food that has been without refrigeration for more than four hours. Our Behavioral Health-Walnut Street location in Waynesville will be closed today, Tuesday 9/17. There is a water main break nearby, which leaves the building inaccessible and without water. There is no estimated time for resolution other than “late in the day.” Thank you.
