The Blue Planet Alliance is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2020 by leading climate change advocate Henk Rogers,
关于我们
The non-profit builds upon monumental climate change policies and initiatives of his Hawaii-based Blue Planet Foundation. Established in 2008, the Foundation successfully passed the nation’s first 100% renewable energy law, requiring the State of Hawaii to commit to 100% clean energy by 2045. It also designed and implemented successful business models to guide Hawaii’s utility in transitioning to 100% renewable energy and continues to drive key policies shaping the State’s clean energy future. Having inspired other states and regions to take similar actions, Blue Planet Alliance was established to expand the Foundation’s efforts beyond Hawaii. Its mission is to regenerate the environment and become 100% sustainable by 2045. Through a “mandate first” approach to initiating global climate change action, the Alliance aims to create measurable and scalable initiatives and results among individuals, organizations, cities, states, countries and eventually, the world

Sustainable Energy for All is a concept that will ensure our planet can be inhabitable for generations to come. And that also happens to be the name of an annual convening — the SEforAll Global Forum — that took place in Barbados last week. Our Caribbean Director, Kneyone M., and one of our BPA Global Ambassadors, Kerese Elliott, were both in attendance. This week, we're getting the perspective of Kneyone, who attended panels, keynotes, and met with a number of officials from across the Caribbean, a region, as he notes, "that is facing pressure from all sides: political, environmental, and financial." In 2024, Blue Planet Alliance continued our critical work to make the planet more inhabitable, sustainable, and resilient to the negative impacts of climate change. This is more important than ever, as the political climate has become less friendly to our efforts. This past year, we welcomed 21 island countries and territories and six U.S. states to Hawaii to demonstrate to them the success we had helping the Aloha State become the first U.S. state to mandate a transition to 100% renewable energy. Yes, that’s right: Hawaii must — by law — be 100% renewable by 2045. By doing so, Hawaii will enjoy the benefits of the Three E’s: * It will be more Energy independent (no longer relying on external sources for its energy) * It will have more Economic power (no more spending billions for fossil fuels) * And it will be more Existentially secure (no more contributing to the islands’ demise) We also had a full calendar of workshops, seminars, speeches, and other events in which we used our convening power to help island communities around the world. Islands are the most vulnerable to — and the least responsible for — the negative impacts of climate change. That’s why BPA remains committed to helping make sure we share what we’ve learned in nearly two decades of climate activism with island leaders, to make them better positioned to survive, and to make sure no one is left behind by 2030. China is the world's biggest polluter. But, as Time magazine reports, the world's second-most populous nation is investing heavily in renewable energy. "China currently produces 31% of its electricity from renewable sources including wind, solar, hydroelectricity, and geothermal. While the country is still heavily reliant on coal, estimates predict that by 2026 solar will overtake the fossil fuel as China’s leading energy source." BPA Founder Henk Rogers talks about how his quest to end the use of carbon-based fuel began in the back of an ambulance after a near-death experience. Since that moment, BPA has catalyzed a global movement, from Hawaii to other U.S. states, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia, and islands throughout the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans.
