“His sister having a baby was probably also a sign he needed to grow up.” - Jane Kallir, quoted in Kelly Crow’s recent The Wall Street Journal exclusive “A Secret Baby and a Nazi Hospital: The Untold Mystery Upending an Artist’s Legacy”. While the majority of exhibitions about Egon Schiele focus on his “expressionist breakthrough” from 1910-1913, Schiele reached his creative pinnacle towards the end of his short life. Major changes in his personal life, including his sister (and muse)’s illegitimate child with his best friend, shifted his artwork to a more empathetic and universal style. The story of Gerti Peshka, alongside other revelations about Schiele’s later years, will be featured in “Changing Times: Egon Schiele’s Last Years, 1914–1918”, opening this Friday at the Leopold Museum. Images: A rare photo of Gertrude Schiele Peschka with her husband, Anton, and their two eldest children, Gerti and Toni, in 1918. Credit to Wien Museum. Gerti’s admission, at 17, to the Steinhof hospital, where she was diagnosed with epilepsy and later schizophrenia. Credit to Vienna City and State Archives.

It's always an interesting and introspective process updating your website, no? You comb through recent and old work and it's always surprising what rises to the surface. We're excited to share the new Bower Blue website (https://bowerblue.co/) and just as excited to share some of the work we've been doing for our clients around the U.S. and the globe! Over the coming weeks we'll be sharing some of our favorite recent projects from across a spectrum of arts and cultural institutions. At our heart, we are storytellers and strategists...we're excited to show you what it looks like when those two identities merge.

One week away! American Australian Association and Blue Medium invite you to AAA headquarters on Wednesday, March 12, 6 - 8p. Join us for a conversation between 2024 Beverley Art Writers Grant Recipient Aruna D’Souza as she recounts her recent visit to Australia. While in Australia, D’Souza met with First Nations artists, curators, and writers, learning not only about Indigenous arts but also the collective structures that artists have built to support themselves and their creative communities. She interviewed Archie Moore and members of the team that organized the Australia Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale, explored Australia’s food culture, and was bowled over by its flora and fauna. In conversation with Aruna will be writer, editor, and educator Lauren O’Neill-Butler, 2023 recipient of the Beverly Art Writers Travel Grant. More information and how to register at the link below! RSVP is required. https://lnkd.in/eaM4Q6Cb

From Observer: "Japanese artist?Tomokazu Matsuyama?will take his place in the spotlight during L.A. Art Week, bringing his cosmopolitan, eclectic vision to the City of Stars in a solo booth of monumental new paintings for Almine Rech at Frieze and in an engaging digital work that will take over the facade of the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. In anticipation of these milestones, Observer met with Matsuyama at his Greenpoint studio to discuss his process, his life journey and his approach to a multifaceted practice that translates his personal universe across media." https://lnkd.in/eBiFQwUq
