The heavy cost of slow hiring ?? I see this conversation happen all the time: Recruiter: “The candidate accepted another offer.” Manager: “But we were their first choice!” Recruiter: “You were.” Manager” “What happened?” Recruiter: “Your 8-week process. The other company? 3 weeks.” Why companies lose top talent: 1. The "perfect candidate" myth → Chasing impossible requirements → Meanwhile, great candidates accept other offers → The market moves faster than your wishlist 2. Death by committee → “Everyone must agree” → No one decides → Talent then walks away 3. Interview fatigue → 6+ rounds of same questions → Exhausted candidates → Diminishing returns 4. Fear paralysis → Obsessing over bad hire risk → Missing great talent → Competitors move faster 5. Process chaos → Delayed feedback → Poor communication → Candidates feel devalued 6. Assessment overload → 10+ hour assignments → Testing patience, not skills → Top talent opts out How to navigate this as a jobseeker: ? Create Urgency "I'm in later stages with other companies" isn't manipulative, it can help with planning. ? Watch Their Communication Radio silence or constant reschedules aren't just annoying, they can be red flags. ? Ask About Timeline Early "What does your hiring timeline look like?" saves everyone time and sets expectations. ? Trust Your Gut If they can't make hiring decisions efficiently, imagine how they handle business decisions. ? Keep Your Search Active Until you have a signed offer, keep looking. Being told “you’re the top candidate" isn't an offer letter. The strongest professional relationships start with mutual respect. That begins with how you handle the hiring process. 9 Brutal Truths of Consulting (They don't teach these in business schools) After 25 years in tech consulting,? I've learned these truths the hard way. But you can save years of trial and error: 1. Billable Hours Rule Your Life: → Track time ruthlessly & set workload limits 2. Trust Is Your Most Valuable Currency: → Deliver small wins early & consistently 3. The Person Who Hired You Cares About Their Next Promotion: → Understand their motivations & success metrics 4. Only 3 Slides From Your 100-Page Deck Will Actually Matter: → Focus on memorable takeaways 5. Coffee Chats Matter More Than Strategy Sessions: → Be interested in your client and build relationships 6. Most Technical Problems Aren't Technical At All: → Look for human factors behind every challenge 7. Burnout Is Inevitable Without Boundaries: → Set strict work-life lines & protect your well-being 8. No Matter What Your Role Is, You Always Sell: → Position ideas as solutions to specific client problems 9. Your Expertise Matters Less Than Managing Uncertainty → Listen to priorities & simplify complexity for confidence Remember, the consulting path will test your limits. But the truth is, you're in control more than you think. ?? Repost to help others ? Follow Dora Vanourek for more

Wise words for those considering a change. I took a pay cut to move into a new industry. The result? 12 months later I 3x'd my previous salary. 4 years later, another 2x increase. Worked for world-changing companies. Met smart, incredible friends, mentors, colleagues. Gained skills to start my own business and help others with their careers. It was scary at first but it was an intelligent risk that paid off. That was my choice but there are no "right" career paths. What’s important is you do what’s best for you. Some questions to think about if you’re considering a change: ? What drives you? Are you chasing it in your current job? ? Long-term goals vs. current path - do they match up? ? Are you ready to leave your comfort zone for something new? ? How would you feel looking back in 5 years if you stayed in your current role versus making a change? What regrets might you have either way? ? What skills and experiences from your current role could transfer to your target industry in unexpected ways? Whatever you decide... Just make sure you're running your own race. Not someone else's. ?? —— Anyone make a big career switch? Would love to hear about it below. Reshare ? to help someone in your network. And follow me for more advice like this.
