As the market builds momentum, we’re seeing promising trends in the almond industry. October shipments totaled 258 million pounds, marking a 21% increase from last month and a 4.5% rise compared to last year. ? Export shipments reached 191 million pounds, slightly exceeding last year’s performance, while domestic shipments bounced back strongly to 67 million pounds—an 18% year-over-year increase and the highest monthly volume since March 2022. ? Following a slow start earlier in the season due to limited supplies, shipments are now accelerating, fueled by robust demand across key export markets. As we approach the holiday season, we anticipate continued growth in shipments through November as the industry focuses on fulfilling orders globally.

As the harvest continues, Blue Diamond’s Vice President of Global Ingredients, Laura Gerhard, reviews the latest almond market trends and provides insights in our new Almond Market Report. ? In the second month of the crop year, industry shipments reached 213.6 million pounds, showing a 27% increase from the previous month but 2% lower compared to the same time last year. Exports rebounded significantly to 157.6 million pounds, a 48% month-over-month increase and 2% higher than last year. Domestic shipments, however, were lighter at 55.9 million pounds, down 11% year-over-year. ? Although total shipments have fallen below expectations for two consecutive months, export activity is gaining momentum after a slow start. With inventories low in many regions and increased demand expected for upcoming holidays and festivals, export volumes are likely to grow in the coming weeks. ? #AlmondMarketUpdate

The California almond industry began the 2024 crop year with August shipments totaling 168.3 million pounds, a 6% decrease from the previous month and down 21% from last year. Domestic shipments were strong at 62.1 million pounds, up 1% from the previous year. In contrast, exports cooled to 106.2 million pounds, down 29% from the prior year. Overall, shipments fell short of expectations due to slower exports resulting from tight inventories at the end of the 2023 crop year. With new crop inventories now available, September shipments are expected to increase. ?
