Last month, our team continued the tradition of volunteering at the Alameda County Community Food Bank. Through this, we had the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community as we were able to help prepare 15,787 meals to combat food insecurity. Reflecting on his time with us, Joseph shares: "My internship at Blue Current marked the beginning of my long-held goal to advance battery technology. As a member of the R&D team, I focused on applying and characterizing next-generation materials for solid-state electrodes, aiming to improve energy density while prioritizing safety. I am grateful for the goal-driven and supportive scientists and engineers who made this journey even more meaningful. In particular, I want to thank Chaoyi Yan, Jessica Golden, PhD, and Kevin Gao, whose mentorship significantly shaped my development as a battery scientist. I am excited to be going back to the University of California, Berkeley to start my senior year in college and build on the solid foundation laid during my time at Blue Current by exploring computational techniques and/or hands-on experimental work to further innovate in energy storage." #SolidState #Batteries #Safety #EnegyStorage

Jason Z., thank you for your work during your R&D internship at Blue Current! Reflecting on his time with us, Jason shares: "This past year has been incredibly rewarding. Before it began, I was unfamiliar with solid-state batteries. Over the course of the year, I had the opportunity to help develop several methods for characterizing solid-state electrodes. I benefited greatly from the patient mentorship of Priyanka Bhattacharya, Kuldeep Kumar, Jack Lewis, and many other talented engineers and scientists. Their support fostered a collaborative work environment where I was able to make significant progress on a range of exciting projects. This year has also fueled my enthusiasm to further my efforts in energy storage research. This fall, I will pursue a doctorate in Materials Science at Caltech. Nathan Zou, thank you for your dedicated efforts throughout your R&D internship at Blue Current! Reflecting on his time with us, Nathan shares: "At Blue Current, I saw the promise of solid-state batteries for improving the safety and energy density in current energy storage devices—crucial for meeting the rising demand for electrification. I am grateful to Kevin Wujcik, Chaoyi Yan, and Kevin Gao for providing me with the opportunity to explore various challenges, understand their impact on battery performance and safety, and test strategies for overcoming them. I want to particularly thank Kevin Gao and the R&D team for creating an environment to facilitate my learning and growth. Kevin's mentorship has sharpened my critical thinking, communication, and creativity, setting me on the path to excel as an independent researcher. I am excited to continue down this path as a Chemical Engineering PhD student at Columbia University in the fall. There, I look to accelerate the discovery of materials for renewable technology applications, explore their interface behavior in electrochemical systems, and evaluate their performance efficiency."
