Moms in Bloom: Perinatal Mental Health at Bloom Health Centers This International Women’s Day, let’s honor the strength, resilience, and courage of all mothers—especially those navigating the challenges of perinatal mental health. ?? In our most recent blog post, Dr. Kasie M. Cassell, DNP, PMHNP-C, WHNP-C, PMH-C shares thoughts about seeking treatment for perinatal mental health concerns. Motherhood is beautiful, but it’s also hard—and you don’t have to go through it alone. Postpartum depression affects up to 25% of women in the first year after giving birth, yet so many suffer in silence. The truth? You are NOT a bad mom for struggling. Seeking help is an act of strength, not weakness. At Bloom Health Centers, our Perinatal Mental Health Program provides compassionate support, from pre-pregnancy planning to postpartum care. Led by Dr. Kasie M. Cassell and a team of Certified Perinatal Mental Health clinicians, we offer therapy, medication management, and personalized care to help mothers navigate this journey. Schedule an appointment and learn more about our services at: https://lnkd.in/etuN_i3s This #IWD, let’s uplift each other by asking the hard questions: ?? “How are you REALLY doing?” ?? “How can I support you?” ??Because when women support women, we all Bloom. ?? #InternationalWomensDay #PerinatalMentalHealth #BloomHealthCenters #MaternalMentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters

When does a patient need to be stepped up to a higher level of care? This is a question that often comes up in mental health treatment for clinicians and patients. Knowing your options helps everyone to make informed decisions around the appropriate level of care. In our most recent blog post, Dr. Elliot Merin, our Director of Acute Services at Bloom Health Centers provides guidelines for seeking a higher level of care. Dr. Merin discusses inclusionary criteria for inpatient care for psychiatric patients and the signs and symptoms that indicate a higher level of care is necessary. Dr. Merin also sheds light on partial hospitalization programs as an intervention that preempts hospitalization and provides patients with more intensive treatment that standard outpatient care. At Bloom Health Centers, we ensure a seamless transition between outpatient, partial hospitalization (PHP), and inpatient care to support long-term wellness. ??Bloom Health Centers provides access to partial hospitalization and inpatient care through established collaborations with select inpatient facilities in Falls Church, Dulles, Richmond, and Fredericksburg, Virginia. ??Bloom clinicians work in hospitals providing care at the acute inpatient level, ensuring continuity and coordination between inpatient stabilization and ongoing outpatient treatment with the Bloom outpatient team. ??This integrated approach helps to facilitate a smoother transition and ongoing support for long-term wellness. If you or a loved one is experiencing a crisis, our team is here to help. Reach out to determine the most appropriate level of care and take the next step toward stabilization and recovery. ?? For life-threatening emergencies, call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room. #MentalHealthMatters #CrisisCare #PHP #InpatientCare #MentalHealthSupport

Love Lost in Translation: How Miscommunication is Disconnecting Hearts In our latest blog, Zainab Al Saeed, MSW, one of our dedicated mental health therapists, explores why relationships can feel disconnected and offers strategies to rebuild meaningful connection. ??Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love - but for many, it’s also a reminder of emotional distance. Even in the strongest relationships, moments of disconnection can leave partners feeling unseen, unheard, or misunderstood. ???We often fall into patterns in our relationships. Patterns in communication can be some of the trickiest, but most beneficial, to identify. The things we say - or leave unsaid - are intimately related to our emotions, thoughts, self beliefs, and assumptions. ?Remember: "Even the most intuitive partner cannot guess what's in your heart without clear communication. When needs go unspoken, disappointment often follows, creating a cycle where both partners feel undervalued and disconnected." ??With awareness and intention, reconnection is possible. About the Author: Zainab Al Saeed is a mental health clinician specializing in CBT, IPT, and DBT. Her approach is rooted in empathy and evidence-based techniques, tailored to each individual's unique needs. Whether addressing anxiety, relationship dynamics, or personal goals, she feels dedicated to fostering a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic journey that helps clients to explore their emotions and challenges and to achieve greater well-being and fulfillment. ??Interested in joining our clinical team? Here are some thoughts from Zainab: "Bloom is a nurturing environment that actively supports my personal and professional growth as a mental health therapist. Through access to ongoing training, collaborative discussions with colleagues, and exposure to diverse client needs, I am continuously expanding my skills and perspectives. The culture of openness and encouragement empowers me to explore innovative approaches, refine my techniques, and stay informed about best practices in the field. With a strong emphasis on work-life balance and personal well-being, my workplace ensures that I have the resources and support necessary to thrive both as a professional and an individual" ?? Our hearts are heavy as we process the devastating loss of life from the tragic accident over the Potomac River. As a mental health organization that supports individuals through grief and loss, we recognize the profound impact of this tragedy on the families, friends, and communities of those aboard American Airlines Flight 5342 and the Army helicopter. In moments of immense sorrow, it is important to lean on one another and seek support. Grief is not a journey that should be walked alone, and we extend our deepest condolences to those mourning the loss of their loved ones. We also want to acknowledge the bravery and dedication of the first responders who worked tirelessly in the wake of this tragedy. Their efforts bring hope and compassion in the darkest of moments. May those we lost rest in peace, and may their families find comfort in the support and love of their communities during this difficult time.
