Solving teacher shortages starts in our own communities! Like many districts, Hernando County School District faced a critical teacher shortage. Instead of searching far and wide for solutions, they looked within—and found a gold mine of future educators. Through a partnership with BloomBoard, they launched the Associate Teacher Substitute program, creating a pathway for local talent to earn their teaching degrees while filling critical vacancies. This approach is not just a quick fix—it’s a sustainable strategy for building a strong, long-term teacher pipeline. ?? This week, we’re highlighting the thoughtful Misha Freeman! Misha comes to BloomBoard with a deep background as an educator. She is a former middle school math teacher, new teacher mentor, and adjunct professor. And, (drumroll, please) she has been a National Board Certified Teacher for over a decade! Her commitment to coaching National Board Certification candidates is what initially brought her to BloomBoard over 3 years ago. Now, she not only manages BloomBoard’s National Board Support Program, but also partners with school district leaders and higher education faculty to help bring on-the-job degree pathways to educators. Misha is incredibly thoughtful, always approaching her work from a team-centered and solutions-oriented lens. She is reflective, skilled at taking on the perspectives of others and avoiding assumptions that are not grounded in evidence and data. Ultimately, she always works to ensure our programs are driven by the people who are most impacted by them. We are honored to have Misha on the BloomBoard team! ??
