The Gates – an installation by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude covering 23 miles of pathways in Central Park with over 7,500 saffron-colored gates – was a monumental display of public art when it opened in February 2005. The piece welcomed 4 million visitors, and generated over $250 million in economic activity across New York City. Beyond being an incredible work of art, The Gates sparked a tradition of public art in New York City that continues to this day. To mark the 20th anniversary, we are partnering with the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation, The Shed (NY), NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, and Central Park Conservancy to bring The Gates back to life through an exhibit of their unrealized projects in New York City and an augmented reality experience in Central Park, available through our free Bloomberg Connects app. Learn how you can experience The Gates – again, or for the first time – starting February 12: https://bit.ly/4fCF7Wn
