A mandatory wrap-up post. A week since the Web3 Oscar by the Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) concluded, and I'm glad to say that it has been a successful inaugural event held at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok. A full day conference alongside #Devcon week, the BGA Web3 Oscar kicked off with the top 10 finalist projects from the global hackathon, the 17 SDGs Challenge, followed by the awaited awards session, The Chains of Change. It was my pleasure to have been the host, emcee and event organizer across the ceremony led by an Alliance set to be at the forefront in pushing #blockchain for social and public good. Shoutout to the team for the deep efforts in planning and coordinating this event, Allan F., Freya (wanyu Chen), Rosemarry Ng, Joy Seah, Coco Coriander, Daniel Zou (DZ) and to all BGA ambassadors and supporters globally! Once again, congratulations to the top 3 projects EthicHub, Plastic Odyssey and ResearchHub and to the 7 Rising Star projects erable°, arkreen, LAKE (LAK3), Wavy Health, UCO Network, KulaDAO and Edu3Labs for being winners of our grand prize pool and for using #blockchain to impact public good. Also, special accolades were given to notable individuals Seh Harn G., Mariana de la Roche Wills, BreeAnne Yek and Milica Dimitrijevic who have pushed the use of #blockchainforgood. An absolute pleasure as well to have made many new connections with many major names in the scene, from Robert Pasicko and Burcu Mavis from the UNDP, to government, institutional and organizational spokespersons and experts in their fields; Abdulla A., Datuk Ts. Fadzli Abdul Wahit, Alexander Eisl, Dilip Chenoy and the numerous panelists on both the Impact and Tech panels. My personal thanks to friends in the #web3 scene who took on the role as judges on our judging panel for the global 17 SDGs challenge, both online and offline; Adam Ihsan, Jay Koh??许晋瑜, Felix Sim and Adam Flinter. 'Rising Stars', feels like a surreal title to win: - 270 projects were submitted for the 2024 Web3 Oscars. - 10 finalists were selected to present in Bangkok by the Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA). - 5000 USD(T) won by Wavy Health as a prize. We (with Lian K. and Steve Thijssen) flew in from 3 different continents into a 4th to make this happen, and it has been an amazing journey. From late nights developing to expand our solution, to late nights branding 500 boxes of kruidnootjes and late nights practice, practice, practicing our pitch until we could dream it. On behalf of the whole team (including Arantja Rosalina, Vinay Kumar, Igor Malytsky and Chiem Janssen), I'd like to thank everyone in the event organization that made this happen: Helen Liu (COO Bybit), Freya wanyu Chen, Daniel Zou (DZ), J. Glenn Tan and of course Kiana Kang among many others. Special thanks to Angela Maas and Petra Elders for believing in us and helping us convince the jury that we are working on something that will contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (3,5 and 10 in particular).
