I was planning on keeping this low key, but since it has reached critical mass I'll just announce it. As part of Startup Week 2025, as a co-lead, I thought in January, lets host a “hackathon”-like event to get people internships & experience the startup phase of product development and pitching. Initially we thought it would be impossible, but we have done it. This has been realized as our inaugural Buildathon, the first hackathon Tech@NYU has hosted in a while, from March 1-2 at Verci Flatiron. As the first time hosting such an event, it has been a roller coaster of emotions learning to host an in-person hackathon on top of our typical event lineup found in startup week. Created in partnership with NYU NSBE and Blockchain Lab @ NYU and sponsored by Adobe, Anthropic, Microsoft, ORA, Soar, and more, the X factor of this small hackathon is simple – become a finalist and get considered for internships at venture-backed startups, or win prizes to kickstart your own venture ($1,500 in API credits from Anthropic). Focusing mainly on word of mouth to see if others in the club and community would appreciate such an event, it’s clear for our club that we may want to continue hosting this to help people enter into the startup space. Looking back, this would not have been possible without the belief of our sponsors and partners, my co-leads Michael S. and Parul Veda, and the committee team – Andy Li, Andi Jegeni, Dorien Zhang, Eason Wang, Grace Gao, Hebe Jiang, Kaylee Chen, Taijung Wu. For college students interested in signing up still, feel free to check out the Devpost linked below, hope to see you there this weekend at Verci Flatiron! https://lnkd.in/ebgkTbRB Feel free to view our other events here: nyustartupweek.org #hackathon #Techatnyu
