First there was the “cookie wars”, now there is a war waging in Utah that I think most people are overlooking, but not me….. It’s a blanket war: Minky Couture Vs. Lola Blankets Have you seen the insane amount of billboards around UT? I swear overnight an insane amount of LOLA BLANKET billboards appeared and I swear Minky responded with nearly as many. I’ve definitely missed a few but just on my recent commute I’ve counted: Lola Blankets - Around 15 Billboards that I have found between SLC and Springville Minky Couture- Roughly the same around 15 billboards and a few blip billboards. (Counted even more since posting this originally) Let’s to the math: Billboard Costs: $10,000-$15,000/month Take the average at $12,500/billboard per month @ 15 billboards = $187,500 per brand! That a total of $375,000/month between both brands! If they stay up for a year: 2.25 Million in billboard costs for just 1 of the brands or nearly 5 Million for both brands! Can you imagine the ROI if they were to invest that 2.25M into paid ads with even a decent media buyer!? IMHO billboards are not the way to go if you want a measurable ROI especially for an ECOMM brand selling blankets. Seems like a massive waste of marketing $$ to me. But I digress….. So the big questions is who do you think is going to win? Also, are that many people buying blankets?
