THROWBACK THURSDAY! Women physicians were few in the 19th century, but welcomed in Quincy. Dr. Melinda Knapheide Germann (1863-1952) graduated from Quincy College of Medicine in 1886. After graduation she traveled to Switzerland, France and Austria for further study. She returned to Quincy, taught internal medicine at her alma mater and opened a practice in 1888. She joined the staff of Blessing Hospital in 1901 and taught obstetrics to nursing students for 30 years! Want to join this legacy?
