Need help decoding or communicating how your business adds value? We can help!
In my thinking spot this morning thinking about “value.” I think this is one of the most important concepts in business & careers - adding value. Value is more than just a great product, a profit, or a brand. It means actually improving the quality of someone’s life or business. I was talking with an aspiring entrepreneur yesterday who said “I have a hard time selling myself.” I used to feel that way, too. But if you can create a business that genuinely makes peoples’ lives better/healthy/easier/higher quality then you really aren’t selling anything. You’re offering to help. It goes beyond just considering ROI: “If you hire us for $10 and we help you make $50, you make a profit.” It goes beyond just partnering together: 1+1=2 There has to be something about the relationship that creates new potential, new outcomes, and new growth. Somehow, the value you’re adding needs to look like 1+1=4. The relationship with your client or your employer creates something new and better than could have been created without your engagement. In addition to your outcomes or productivity, you bring out an increased engagement from others, help people and teams reach their potential, decrease stress, calm fears, and build organizational resiliency. Key takeaways: 1?? The best businesses actually add value to the lives of their customers/clients. This is beyond just the measure of your product or service. 2?? If you or your business genuinely add value, you never have to sell. People recognize your value-add and seek it out. 3?? While you don’t have to sell your value, you do have to be able to communicate it. The value is observable, but your clients need words to be able to explain your value to others. By providing the language for how you add value, you make it easier to find referral pipelines. 4?? Make “adding value” a requirement for your next job. If you can’t ultimately add value there, you likely won’t be happy. People want to know they are contributing to something, and if you can’t figure out how you’re going to do that either have a direct conversation or find something else. It will be hard for you to be happy there. #addvalue #valueprop #careers #sales #selling #branding
