Our café day center team asked to have their photo taken to thank our board and leadership for prioritizing their health by granting them a four-day workweek. This change in schedule makes room for two more staff members and more time to decompress. Serving our city’s most vulnerable members every day is physically and emotionally demanding work. Compassion fatigue can affect even the most compassionate individuals, and the best remedy is rest and support. We're so grateful to (pictured left to right) Elizabeth Ashworth, Ava Duckhorn, James Smith, Ami Prevec, and Liz Walker for their commitment and care to our community.

Can people experiencing homelessness feel joy and happiness? Scott Kerman thinks so and believes they deserve to. In his latest blog post, Scott explains?how homeless services like Blanchet House & Farm can do more than?provide?survival?necessities. After being rudely denied housing because the landlord found out that he lived at Blanchet House, Gary finally secured keys to an apartment. On top of having to battle the stigma of being in transitional housing, Gary is hearing impaired, which made his housing search even harder. If you're in recovery, finding safe, stable, and affordable housing can feel impossible because of discrimination, scarce resources, and endless waitlists. We celebrate Gary's victory but won't stop calling attention to the injustice that keeps so many others like him unhoused for too long. Thank you to our residential team Jennifer Coon Shelly Bancroft and Kristi Katzke for not giving up.

At 97 years old, Blanchet House co-founder Jim O’Hanlon Sr. attended our annual Lend a Helping Hand Brunch on March 2, a testament to his lifelong commitment to serving others. In 1952, Jim and his friends opened Portland’s only House of Hospitality, driven by a simple yet powerful mission—to help those in need. “No one else was there to help people out. So that’s what we did. We had to keep it going because the need was there,” Jim recalled. Thanks to our community and sponsors' generosity, we raised more than $435,000 at this year’s event, ensuring that Jim’s vision of service continues. Thank you for being part of this mission! #LendAHelpingHand #BlanchetHouse #portland #houseofhospitality
