We recently held an impactful Q&A session with IFF (CDFI), and the Village of Park Forest, Illinois, connecting with community members about our latest endeavor: Access South Cook— an affordable housing development by Blackwood Group LLC and Crane Construction Company LLC. Located on the Park Forest village campus, conveniently near retail businesses, government offices, banks, a prairie garden, restaurants, and a farmers market. This project will create 44 rental units (24 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom units) in addition to a shared green space and a community building. Each residential unit will feature modern amenities, including central air-conditioning, in-unit laundry, high-quality cabinetry and flooring, as well as energy-efficient appliances and lighting. Importantly, all first-floor apartments will be fully accessible, ensuring everyone can thrive in their homes. Notably, the last new development in the Village of Park Forest took place in 2005, making this project a significant leap forward in providing quality, affordable housing options for the community. ?? Key highlights include: ? A community building for gatherings and activities ? A shared green space to foster community connections ? Stormwater management features—marking a first for Park Forest ? Landscaping that complements the natural prairie grass at Village Hall During the session, the board emphasized IFF (CDFI), WJW Architects, Crane Construction Company LLC and Blackwood Group LLC dedication to community inclusion over division and applauded our efforts in electrification. This commitment to health and sustainable living reflects our advocacy for fair housing and a brighter future for the Park Forest community. A year ago, Blackwood Group LLC began construction on United Yards Phase 1B, and we’re excited to announce that completion is just around the corner! This transformative project involves a multi-tenant white-box buildout on the ground floor of the historic Goldblatt’s building, converting 24,925 square feet into a vibrant community hub. Phase 1B features: A 15,000-square-foot federally qualified health center, bringing essential healthcare access to the community. 7,200 square feet of retail spaces, dedicated to supporting minority-owned small businesses.
