The?Blacks in I/O Psychology (BIOP) Annual Conference?created a space for attendees to learn how human behavior can translate into workplace conduct and organizational settings, all while thinking about the future of organizations. We’re having the convos organizations aren't having and sparking innovative ways to rethink task-based performance versus utilizing value-based performance. It’s about aligning your core values with your current workplace and focusing on what can truly add value to the overall organization. It was great delivering this much-needed message to conference attendees alongside my colleague, Milpha Thomas Blamo, EdD. Looking forward to continuing these conversations and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in organizational growth! #BIOP2025 #Leadership #OrganizationalDevelopment #ValueDrivenPerformance

Reflecting back on the Blacks in I/O Psychology(BIOP) 2025 Conference & Gala, and how I left feeling so inspired! ?? The theme, "Harboring Innovation: Shaping Tomorrow’s Workplace," really hit home. The sessions were packed with ideas on how to make work more creative, engaging, and future-ready. I’m excited to take what I learned and apply it at Monex USA to help drive innovation and keep evolving our workplace. One of the highlights for me was speaking on a panel with Calla Zane, Jacadi Tillman, MPS, and Marjorie Bryant about our experience applying to jobs in I/O psychology. It was such an honor to share my journey and insights with others who are navigating the same path. Proud of the conversation we had and the connections made! But honestly, what made this event special was the sense of community. Being surrounded by so many amazing professionals, all passionate about making a difference in the workplace, was beyond energizing. I’m leaving with new connections, fresh ideas, and a renewed sense of purpose. Can’t wait to put these insights into action and continue shaping the future of work. Let’s keep pushing for change! ?? Shoutout to Jalen A. Byrd for making this panel possible! #BIOP2025 #Innovation #FutureOfWork #WorkplaceTransformation #Community #MonexUSA #IOPsychology #PanelDiscussion

Exciting to see our students, undergraduate, and graduate alumni actively engage in the 2025 Blacks in IO Psychology Conference. Looking forward to next year.
It was great for my colleague Dr. Elissa Abod and me to be at annual conference of Blacks in I/O Psychology (BIOP) held in Baltimore last week.?We had a solid representation of University of Maryland Baltimore County students and alumni. The conference featured substantive content and was a forum that collectively allowed us to catch up with other former students and colleagues--and meet new ones!?A number of people came by and visited our table to discuss the Masters in I-O program at UMBC.?This coming Tuesday night (02/25/2025), UMBC will again partner with BIOP and the PERSONNEL TESTING COUNCIL OF METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON for the annual Career Panel where early-career professionals share their journeys. Two weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to attend #BIOP2025 in Baltimore, MD. This was my first Blacks in I/O Psychology confererence as a new memeber and a conference planning/gala committee volunteer which made it even more special. Over the course of the conference I had the chance to connect with and learn from colleagues, peers and experts in this dynamic field. From attending sessions focused on building an understanding of how to design inclusive organization surveys, to discovering more about learning transfer, and the future of the integration of AI in workplace experience, I found myself immersed in invaluable knowledge. It was also wonderful to have the opportunity to finally meet some of my cohort members in-person as we embark on our last semester of our Master’s program! I am grateful to have had the opportunity to engage in such an impactful conference and thank you to the Blacks in I/O Psychology founders, conference planning committee, speakers, and sponsors for making all this possible. I look forward to what next year’s conference brings! #IOPsychology #BIOP2025 #GraduateStudents #ProfessionalDevelopment #BlacksInIO #Innovation #ShapingChange

I am sooo late in making this post but it’s never too late to show my gratitude to Macy Cheeks and Shavonne Holman for their countless hours of dedication to giving us a safe, enriching space as I/O Psycholgists. I look forward to many more years of continued education and fellowship with you all! #BIOP2025 was better than anticipated, even in these troubling and uncertain times we’re facing. Being able to reconnect with peers and be introduced to new ones, sharing dialogue across industries, and gaining valuable insights to take back to my organization simply understates the experience we had in Baltimore. And I must mention the knockout keynote panel featuring the bright minds of Angela R. Howard, Gena Cox, PhD, Kalifa Oliver, Ph.D., and Stephanie Murphy, Ph.D. Thank you, ladies, for your wisdom and for starting us off on such a high note. While reflecting on the weekend, #community was a recurring theme for me. It’s something we need now more than ever. Within our organizations, societies, and our personal lives, we’re all in this together - that’s where our power lives. Being able to connect with fellow Hamptonians and new friends Jacadi Tillman, MPS, Jalen A. Byrd, Calla Zane, and Rachel Hopp for our panel was without a doubt the highlight of my trip. Sharing my story from student to professional and having people tell me that what I shared resonated with them drew me closer to this field, this organization, and my purpose. Thanks to everyone who was able to make the panel! Thank you Accion & Melissa Baez for yet another year of your support towards my professional growth! I am grateful to be a part of our especial organization where our impact and values serve the greater good. May our commitment to empowering marginalized communities around the world soon be reflected here at home ?

My attendance at the Blacks in I-O Psychology Conference in Baltimore, MD, in February 2024 was uplifting and renewed my commitment to advancing our field, supporting my peers, and highlighting the unique contributions of Black psychologists in organizational science. I had the opportunity to reconnect with former students, mentees, and both new and old colleagues. I am especially thankful for the time spent with a few individuals, particularly my first mentee Keicia Stevenson Rome from UB and SSA, a recent mentee Nathan Price from UMCP and Academic IO, and my most recent mentee Dameona Merriweather from UMCP. Thank you all, presenters, exhibitors, organizers, leaders, attendees, etc. for making the conference a rewarding experience. In these challenging times, it is crucial to uplift one another, promote progress in I-O Psychology, and strive to end systemic oppression, racism, sexism, ageism, and the organizational harm caused by poor leadership and governance. My colleague, Dr. Preston Lindsay and I are committed to researching organizational trauma and its effects on individuals, groups, and systems. We are equally dedicated to developing and implementing comprehensive interventions to tackle these issues and create healthier, more resilient workplaces and communities. #IOPsychology #BlacksInIO #OrganizationalScience #Mentorship #DiversityInPsychology #EndSystemicOppression #OrganizationalTrauma #Leadership #ResilientWorkplaces #CommunityWellbeing #PsychologyConference #SupportEachOther #BlackPsychologists #PromoteProgress #HeartCenterOrientedWorkplace

A coachee once shared with me that their senior HR business leader discouraged them from attending a conference highlighting women in leadership, claiming that “minority-focused” conferences aren’t beneficial because they tend to be “pity parties.” I was stunned. What an absurd, dismissive, and offensive perspective to project. The most enriching, thought-provoking, and career-impacting conferences I’ve attended have been those centered on inclusion, diversity, equity, and belonging—spaces that are not just about representation but about driving meaningful/substantive change and, believe it or not, celebrating merit. Check the stats on who’s topping the charts there. ?? Attending the second annual Blacks in I/O Psychology Conference was no exception to that standard experience. After experiencing the inaugural one, I knew I couldn’t miss this year’s. It was a powerful opportunity to connect, learn, and engage with brilliant minds in the field, exchanging insights that are shaping not only the future of I/O psychology but also the broader world of work and business. I left feeling both inspired and affirmed, reminded of the importance of creating and sustaining spaces where Black professionals in this field can thrive—alongside non-Black professionals who genuinely support and advocate for our success. I’m grateful for the experience and have felt encouraged by the ongoing dialogues. Again, shoutout to my sister scholars and leaders, Macy & Shavonne for their provision in curating this impactful community. #BlacksInIO #BIOP #leadershipdevelopment #organizationalpsychology #consultingpsychology
