Black Muslim TV Season 2~ Continuing with the theme, we wanted to pursue this idea of exploring the mind-body-spiritual connection in our second season. Welcome to BMTV season 2 College Takeover! Black Muslim TV's Season 1~ Part of BMTv's ART initiative is to give a glimpse into the complexities of Black Muslim experience to allow a mind-body-spirit connection through our short interview-style documentaries that are published on Youtube. Season 1 is where BMTv first began before evolving into a nonprofit. The first season was an intro into being Black and Muslim. It was filmed during the pandemic in Rhode Island in the summer of 2020 and compiles 5 episodes. Below is the trailer for our first ever season. BMTV Initiative: Salam Box~ Within BMTV's education pillar, we wanted to introduce "Salam Boxes" to you all. The Salam Box is BMTV's first campaign towards the community, initiated towards the end of 2021. We provide starter items for our Muslim brothers and sisters to welcome them. In efforts to provide the essentials, a Salam Box includes a Quran, prayer mat, tasbih, hijab/kufi, and islamic books. Thus far we have given out 10 boxes and received 20 requests. What do we know about their distribution? - 70% of those who requested a box were in the North East Region of American - 15% of people who requested were international - 54% of people who requested a box were Black American - 31% of people who requested a box were African - 77% of people were aged 18-25 - 60% of people who requested a box found themselves on a spiritual journey while 40% were reverts. The boxes aren't exclusively for reverts. - Although 46% of people learned about our boxes through social media, 54% of people learned from someone they knew so keep spreading the word! Our "Salam Boxes" have been distributed to 6 different states. Help us reach more. BMTV Programming~ BMTV is often seeking opportunities to show up at other community-oriented events that aligns with our mission or gives us the chance to spread our reach. BMTV was present at “The Black Muslim Initiative (BMI) at New York University (NYU)” 6th Annual Black Muslim Symposium. This symposium was focused on linking the diaspora to each other. They had various speakers who centered on discussing global oppression, anti-black rhetoric, global solidarity, the legacy of Black Muslims in Islam, and rediscovering Islam. These speakers are leaders and thought-provoking individuals of faith such as writer Tariq Toure, activist Dr. Yusef Salaam, and Sheikh Abdullah Oduro, just to name a few. BMTV was grateful to be able to sit and listen to educated speakers engage in these conversations. We appreciated the opportunity to be present as we interacted with the panels and help support NYU BMI’s mission. Let BMTV know about any other future community-oriented engagements that align with our mission and could be used to make BMTV present.

BMTV Programming Pillar~ BMTV’s programming strives to mentor rising leaders in addition to uplifting the work of scholars, activists, and creatives. One of the ways we do this is through the BMTV ambassador program. Our BMTV ambassadors are leaders who are passionate about centering Black Muslim voices and therefore conveying the BMTV’s mission. Ambassadors have a genuine desire to create inclusive communities wherever they are using Islam to do so. They are often broken into three sectors: expressing the artistry of BMTV, educating through discussing our experiences, or empowering by forming spaces on college campuses. That is what our ambassador, Alioune Diop, is doing. Alioune is a junior at Boston College. He wanted to create a Black Muslim organization at his college and through meetings, BMTV has helped him to do so. BMTV has met with Alioune since his freshman year at Boston College, and with a goal of building leaders that can maintain a black Muslim space, Alioune is now the co-president of “Black Muslim’s Path” (BMP) at Boston College. BMP is currently hosting Ramadan Iftars and clothing drives while collaborating with other organizations. We are excited to see what the future of our Ambassador program holds and who else we’ll get to connect with. Follow BMP on Instagram @blackmuslimspath
