Black Ignite celebrates Black Designers and promotes public speaking / creative storytelling. We are a collective of creatives from coast to coast cultivating community and igniting change, ideas and connection. We are most known for our inaugural event in August of 2020 where 30 Black Designers spoke, ignite style, about their transitions as a Black designer in America. Ever since then, this community has grown and expanded beyond measure.. Our purpose is to create space for Black & Designers of Color with unique virtual events where they can highlight their work and tell their stories. We are reimagining how designers start and grow their design careers, and challenging the way designers and speakers gain exposure, network, present portfolios and earn. Our collective is building a platform with the purpose of solving big problems and bringing together passionate designers to create change and unity. We do this by challenging the status quo and elevating voices of those too often left behind.

Outside of UX, I love promoting accessibility advocacy and I’m a task force lead for the Disability Mental Health Business Council at Target. The biggest hurdle of being a creative professional, for me, is sharing. Design is only as effective as is the ability to express a collective idea. Talk 1 this Sunday is from Joshua Leonard “Team Supreme & the need for change - Register to tune in live at Blackignite.com where you can read the bios of all our amazing speakers????? #BlackIgnite2024 Joshua Leonard is an illustrator, concept artist, character designer, & traditional 2D animator, specializing in creating compelling, inclusive, & diverse characters that are often underrepresented & overlooked while also creating relatable stories. His focus on disabilities, neurodiversity, and representation has already had a significant positive impact on youth around the world, regardless of ability. He’s been drawing since kindergarten and graduated top of his class from the Art Institute of Atlanta in 2018 with a 4.0 GPA & a degree in Media Arts & Animation. Seeing a need for diversity & inclusion in animation & the animation industry itself, with less than 4% of animators being of color, Joshua founded his own studio, Leonard Studios, to help change how cartoons & films portray being different, along with normalizing it. “I believe I was put here in the animation industry to make a huge difference to show & create what diversity, inclusion, & empathy really look like, while also just creating some dope shows. The best way to do this is to start with the kids. That’s rewarding to me.” Joshua has been featured in several magazines, & media sites, specifically including his ATTN: feature, which went viral with over 6.5 Million views. He’s also done illustration work for major companies including Netflix, Nickelodeon, Sony Immersive, The Jim Henson Company, Hillman Grad Productions, Illumination, Disney, Axis Studios, Reprise Post, Baobab Studios, OVO, 9 Story, and more. The work nearest & dearest to him is his creation, Team Supreme, which is about a group of young superheroes who each have intellectual or physical disabilities, but their disabilities double as their superpowers. Each hero in Team Supreme has what society deems as a medical difference, including Autism, Blindness, Epilepsy, & Spina Bifida, but they don’t let their diagnosis stop them. He’s determined to share these characters & stories w/ the world, he knows how necessary & important it is. He is currently working on a highly-anticipated Team Supreme comic book series through Leonard Studios. #BlackExcellence #BlackDesigners
