Who does Black Girl Film School serve? BGFS learners are from communities and populations underserved with digital media centers and institutes that promote STEAM and media training. In addition to students enrolled in our program, our impact extends to their parents, younger siblings, and families. Our teaching assistants, who are recent college graduates, are also impacted by our mission. Redefining Film Education: Empowering Girls for Success Behind the Camera At Black Girl Film School (BGFS), we're dedicated to transforming girls' educational landscape, providing them unparalleled opportunities to thrive in the diverse cinematic landscape. Through our innovative STEAM-focused approach, we not only improve academic outcomes but also nurture a new generation of technology leaders equipped to shape the future of media. Our mission is clear: to empower girls by offering comprehensive STEAM-focused film school that delve into filmmaking's technical and creative realms behind the camera. Our 12-week programs cover various topics, including literacy, production fundamentals, camera operations, cinematography mathematics, composition, narrative filmmaking, and nonfiction storytelling. Delivered online, our curriculum is designed to be accessible, ensuring students can engage with the material regardless of location. Beyond our online learning model, we understand the importance of hands-on experience. That's why we collaborate with local museums, media centers, and arts institutions to host in-person events, providing students with invaluable on-set learning opportunities alongside industry professionals. This blend of online instruction and real-world application ensures that our graduates are proficient filmmakers poised to excel in diverse roles across the industry. Our commitment to holistic education extends beyond the classroom. Through our college readiness and mentorship program, we boast a remarkable 90% success rate in helping graduates gain admission to prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, Stanford University, Columbia University, and more.
