Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women. This isn’t just a statistic. This is a reality that too many of us face. I was honored to be part of this powerful WCPO 9 Cincinnati feature, shedding light on the realities of Black maternal health. The story of Kristen Uitenham is one we hear far too often. Black women speaking up about their concerns during pregnancy, often to?be?ignored As someone deeply committed to this work, I’ve been leading conversations, hosting focus groups, and advocating for real change. We know that listening to Black women is not just important. It’s critical to saving lives. Gratitude & Purpose I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to speak at the Black Men and Male Youth Intergenerational Wellness Event. It was an honor to share my journey and talk about the power of having purpose; with the hope of inspiring at least one young man in the room. During my presentation, I gave away a few signed copies of my book. Later, after the event, a young man came up to me and shared that he had already started reading it. He told me that a quote from Woody Allen had touched his heart: "If you want to make God laugh, tell Him about your plans." This resonated deeply with him because he had recently made the decision to start going to church, and is about to get baptized. Moments like these remind me why I do this work. If even one young man walks away inspired, encouraged, or believing in his potential, then it’s all worth it.
