?? Introducing: "The Birthplace of America's Music" ?? If you love music, Mississippi should be on your playlist. American music is a global phenomenon, but its roots trace back to one place — Mississippi. Over 100 years ago, in the Mississippi Delta, the blues ignited a revolution that would shape rock 'n' roll, gospel, country, and R&B, while influencing genres from jazz to hip hop. Today, the story of Mississippi’s musical legacy continues to resonate. From the iconic legacies of B.B. King, Elvis Presley, and Muddy Waters, to today's rising stars playing in juke joints, theaters, and amphitheater's across the state, Mississippi remains a living tribute to the heart and soul of American music. Check out our 2025 spot to see how Mississippi's musical heritage continues to inspire the world. ?? Plan your musical journey: https://lnkd.in/geRCfPm3 ?? Director of Tourism, Visit Mississippi

In the tourism industry, we often talk about creating authentic experiences for our visitors. We had the honor of being invited by the U.S. Civil Rights Trail to travel to Alabama and visit some of the sites that were critical to the civil rights movement. Thank you to Lee Sentell, Liz Bittner, Mark Ezell and Alabama Tourism. To say we had an experience is an understatement. #WhatHappenedHereChangedTheWorld #VisitAlabama #VisitTennessee #VisitMississippi #VisitMontgomery #VisitSelma #USCivilRightsTrail #TravelSouthUSA

Three things: 40% of small businesses never reopen their doors following a disaster. 90% of businesses receiving a grant from our organization on the heels of the pandemic were still open 4 years later. You can do something to help. Please contribute and share as you are able. In the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Helene, our community's grit and gumption have been on full display. We have been deeply moved by the outpouring of support from friends and partners near and far. Many have asked how they can help. Explore Asheville, a 501(c)6 nonprofit, has established the Always Asheville Fund to support our small, independent travel and hospitality businesses across Buncombe County as they work to recover and rebuild. Explore Asheville has seeded the fund with $300,000. The Always Asheville Fund will provide emergency grants—not loans—to help sustain the vibrant, creative, and deeply rooted community that makes the Asheville area so distinct.

Today, Visit Mississippi and the Mississippi Humanities Council proudly unveiled a new Mississippi Freedom Trail marker honoring the courageous efforts of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP) at the 1964 Democratic National Convention. This is the first Mississippi Freedom Trail Marker outside of the state, located at the Kennedy Plaza in front of Historic Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In August 1964, MFDP delegates argued that the all-White regular state party violated the bylaws of the national party by excluding Black Mississippians. The challenge included Fannie Lou Hamer's riveting testimony before the credentials committee. Although the MFDP was not seated, their effort led to the creation of Mississippi's first integrated delegation in 1968. Join us in commemorating this pivotal moment in history and honoring the legacy of the MFDP and their enduring impact on civil rights. A special thank you to Visit Atlantic City and the New Jersey Division of Travel & Tourism for their invaluable partnership and essential support in bringing this tribute to life. Being a tourist in my own hometown had me enjoying the James Brown Family Foundation Tour. A highlight was a stop at the famous statue of the legendary entertainer known as the GODFATHER OF SOUL and the HARDEST WORKING MAN IN SHOW BUSINESS. There are so many touchpoints along this interesting journey, from the elementary school he attended, to the former Church’s Chicken where he had the preference of “only wings”, to the site of his former radio station, and even the funeral home that managed his three funeral services in December of 2006. (Note: the funeral home occupies a building that used to be a super popular night club owned by James Brown.) A priceless recent addition is an inside tour of the Augusta house Mr. Brown bought for his father - paid cash- in the late 1960’s. It’s history…frozen in time. Thanks to tour guide Kiki Cofer. The tour also includes admission to the Augusta Museum Of History which has an amazing James Brown exhibit. The museum also shares so many other interesting stories about Augusta. #destinationaugusta #comeseeaugusta #loveaugusta
