The winners of the Oscar for best documentary feature, No Other Land, Palestinian and Israeli, filmmakers spoke of a third way towards peace during their acceptance speech last night. Dr. Ralph Bunche was the 1st African American to win the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in mediating the conflict between Israel and the Arab states. Last Monday I had the pleasure of meeting with Nizar Farsakh, Palestinian, and Kobi Skolnick, Israeli, along with representatives from PeaceWorks to discuss how we might partner to advance the third way, the way that Dr. Bunche was working towards…#PEACE!

"Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve." – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Service to the community is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting change. It is an act of love, connection, and responsibility—one that reminds us that we are all part of something greater than ourselves. Whether young or old, everyone has the ability to give back in meaningful ways. During Black History Month, we honor the legacy of those who fought for justice, equity, and the empowerment of future generations. It is a time to reflect on the contributions of Black leaders and the importance of continuing their work through education, advocacy, and service. One of the greatest forms of service is investing in young minds, ensuring that they are exposed to diverse perspectives and inspired to explore the world beyond their immediate surroundings. Participating in the Thomas Stone Elementary showcase provided an incredible opportunity to do just that—introducing K-5 students to international affairs in a fun, engaging way. Through cultural attire, interactive sushi-making, dancing to Jerusalema, games, and storytelling, children experienced firsthand the richness of different traditions. These activities weren’t just about learning facts; they were about fostering curiosity, empathy, and a sense of global citizenship. No matter one's age, background, or profession, we all have a role to play in uplifting our communities. Whether through mentorship, volunteering, or simply sharing knowledge, every effort matters. As Dr. King reminded us, greatness is found in service, and when we commit to serving others, we shape a brighter future for all.
