Black Health Matters African Americans have poor health outcomes on nearly every disease index; we're either at higher risk for developing an illness or we die from it in greater numbers. While access to health insurance and socioeconomic status play a significant part in these health disparities, we also lack awareness about a lot of preventive steps we could take to better our health, and we're in denial, too. Black Health Matters will provide information about health and well-being from a service-oriented perspective–with lots of upbeat, positive solutions and tips. Empowering hearts and communities! Black Health Matters and Close the Gap, a Boston Scientific Initiative, teamed up at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., North Atlantic Region Cluster I Meeting to spotlight the critical importance of heart health in the Black community. On November 15th, AKA leaders and experts united at The Westin National Harbor for the "Health Equity" roundtable, focused on addressing Black community heart health disparities. The next day, the Gaylord National Resort hosted the "Caring for the Heart of Our Communities" panel, engaging 2,300 participants in discussions on community heart health initiatives.
