Preserving the art & love of collecting vinyl through storytelling our eclectic music taste, EST. 2018
关于我们
At Black Girls Love Vinyl (BGLV), we are more than just a community; we are a testament to the enduring love for vinyl records. Many of us have acquired our collections from family members or starting out fresh with a feeling of nostalgia and modern cultural desires. Our journey began in 2018 with a simple yet profound mission - to preserve the art of record collecting and to celebrate the boundless passion for music that showcases through our storytelling historical presence as collectors. At the core of our existence is the unwavering belief that community is the heartbeat of music. We provide a foundation for women to 'find their tribe,' to feel included, to share their stories, and to champion each other as they take center stage in the world of music. BGLV is more than just a platform for record collectors; it's a repository of visual storytelling, a guardian of history, a cultivator of community, and a promoter of music education. We are steadfast in our commitment to preserving the essence of music and its profound impact on our lives through platform programming, momentos, events, activations, partnerships and much more.

It was an analog dream, collaborating with Audio-Technica and Soul Sugar Joint to create an audio immersive, interactive vinyl experience here in NYC! BGLV and Soul Sugar Joint curated an eclectic selection from the in-house record library, featuring rare soul, blues, hip-hop, jazz and Japanese genres. With full access to Audio-Technica’s cutting-edge equipment, we explored Hi-Fi turntables, audiophile headphones, amps, speakers and more, making it the perfect setting for music discovery on vinyl. Soul Sugar Joint invited us into her world through her personal record collection, where we listened & handpicked tracks that defined our Soul, Sugar, and our Joint — those songs that truly ‘have you in a chokehold.’ We topped off the experience with a BGLV record swap, where everyone traded & went home with a new vinyl, complete with handwritten messages and a limited edition vinyl insert, created in collaboration with Jakiyah Cabell “The Care Package” newsletters. This heartfelt gathering united a vibrant community of Black women DJs, producers, artists, vinyl lovers and music enthusiasts. Special thank you to Jacob Derwin and Audio-Technica for bringing our vision to life with incredible hospitality, giveaways, all the goodies and more. Shoutout to Alexandria S. Henson of BGLV for thoughtfully curating & producing the event alongside Brooks W. of Soul Sugar Joint, hosting and sharing records, making this event so memorable. We can’t forget the iconic Soul Sugar Joint candy bowl! Until next time… ?????? Recap reel here:https://lnkd.in/e3hc2EHm

We’re thrilled to present @djrashida as our Collector of the Month! ?? An iconic figure in the music scene, Rashida’s impeccable taste and vinyl collection are gems. Rashida Robinson, known as DJ Rashida, is a DJ from Los Angeles, California. She has been DJing since 1998 and has spun records around the world, gracing stages with artists like Prince, CeeLo Green, Kelis, Bruno Mars, Pharrell Williams and more. Her talent and unique style have made her a sought-after DJ for high-profile events and exclusive parties. DJ Rashida’s connection to Prince goes beyond her memorable cameo in his music video - Black Sweat; she was also his tour DJ, collaborating with him on numerous performances and projects. Her contributions to the culture are as deep as the grooves in her records. Beyond her DJ career, Rashida is a champion of vinyl culture with her ongoing #mamacrates sample series. Her collection features various rare gems and classics, reflecting her deep appreciation for music’s rich history. We’re honored to highlight her as a shining example of excellence in the vinyl community and music industry. Rashida will also be gracing our event with @soulpurpse on July 23rd with a DJ set in celebration of her birthday month too. More from our COTM on the way??
