Through our multi-city HUB program, Black Girl Environmentalist cultivates location specific opportunities for our community to unite around environmental justice and co-create the regenerative future that we require Our HUBs are located in: NYC, LA, DC, Chicago, New Orleans, Boston, Knoxville, Philadelphia, the Bay Area (SF/Oakland), Columbus, and Atlanta. We are hiring an Environmental Justice Program Outreach Manager to lead our efforts within the EPA's Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Centers Program (TCTAC). In collaboration with a multi-sector team led by the University of Connecticut, the candidate will play a key role in the equitable allocation of federal resources to foster community development, enhance climate resilience, and promote environmental stewardship in EPA Region 1. ? This New York Climate Week the BGE team had a blast as we hosted 3 exciting events, and brought our community together to learn, share, and celebrate. ? On Thursday BGE cohosted the BIPOC Green Career Summit partnering with The Nest Climate Campus, Green Jobs Board and BlackOak Collective ???? On Friday we collaborated with Rebundle to put on a climate meet up, for a fun party in BK. ???? On Saturday we hosted a panel on our Hazel M. Johnson Program at The Marketplace of the Future highlighting fellows’ experiences and opportunities for new partner companies to get involved in the future cohort????? Thank you to everyone who showed up and showed out during NYCW and supported our programming!

This Summer at our end of fellowship retreat our talented cohort of early-career professionals enjoyed a weekend of environmental connection, fun, unity, and belonging. Grounded in nature, fellows reflected on their summer where they worked full time internships at top companies in the climate sector, enjoyed career development programming, and built life long communities at a retreat marked by joy, adventure, and optimism. We are excited to come back next summer even bigger and better, as we grow the cohort and collaborate with more partner organizations. Johnson (HMJ) program launched in the Summer of 2024 to attract, support, and sustain the critical voices missing from the environmental movement. Why? Despite people of color bearing the brunt of the climate crisis and making up nearly 40% of the U.S. population, an industry ‘green ceiling’ remains, with people of color only making up 12-16% of the workforce. Within academia, the same, systemic issues are apparent. In 2021, a mere 138 Bachelors Degrees in Environmenal Science were awarded to Black women in the U.S. That’s unacceptable. Black women and gender-expansive environmentalists are crucial to ideating and implementing the innovative, holistic approaches we urgently need to solve our shared, triple planetary crisis. That’s why BGE is building a Black, ‘green’ workforce pipeline by providing HMJ fellows with paid environmental internships, dedicated mentorship, and ‘green’ career retention strategies. And we’re more passionate than ever about continuing and expanding this career program by and for Black Womxn environmentalists to benefit our community, our movement, and our planet. Decision maker?
