Seeks to improve Black Maternal Health through promotion of Healthcare Advocacy and Holistic Community Support.
关于我们
BCFSM? is a 501c3 nonprofit organization established by a group of committed birth justice activists to promote healthcare advocacy education in the black community. https://linktr.ee/BCFSM?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=7c1de27b-0d84-4ab1-897a-55850b93c8e8 The idea for BCFSM? arose out of the partnership between Drs. Leslie Farrington and Laurie Zephyrin, who are Black Obstetricians. Both believe that Black birthing people and their supporters can take ownership of maternal health experiences by vetting prenatal and birthing services, choosing providers who give respectful and person-centered care, amplifying their voices, and partnering with their medical team. BCFSM? is proud to promote the ACTT Curriculum, which was created by Black women for Black birthing people. Nurses, obstetricians, midwives, doulas, and community members have collaborated to offer a powerful healthcare advocacy toolkit, which anyone in the community can use to help improve the pregnancy, birth and post birth outcomes of Black families. BCFSM? uses birthing people and Moms interchangeably, and it recognizes that people of all genders may have the capacity for pregnancy and birth.

The Beloved Community has the Solutions. Group Prenatal Care and support led by Midwife Nubia Earth Martin at Maryam in the Bronx, NY is a prime example. “We invite you to experience the warmth and support of Therapeutic Thursdays at Maryam, where wellness and connection meet. Our Village Prenatal Circle is a low-cost (pay what you can: $0-$25) communal space that goes beyond a standard check-up – it’s a nurturing gathering where you can share your prenatal journey with a supportive network of peers. Led by Nubia, our Group Village Prenatals offer an inclusive environment designed to foster care and connection throughout your pregnancy.” #HolisticCommunitySupport #GroupPrenatalCare #communitysolutions #BelovedCommunity

As Executive Director of BCFSM, a small but mighty nonprofit organization, it’s my job to spread the word about our powerful ACTT self-advocacy toolkit and practice. I did my job with joy last weekend at the Mothers of Gynecology Day of Reckoning Conference. Michelle Browder is the dynamic and innovative curator of More than a Conference. She brings together visionaries who are leading us forward with love and wisdom and their own creativity. Over the weekend I shared ACTT with Joel Bervell, Medical Myth Buster, esteemed authors Harriet Washington and Linda Villarosa, health equity champion Aletha Maybank, Every Mother Counts founder Christy Turlington and Mama Glow founder Latham Thomas. #Collaboration, #Connection in #Community is how we will keep moving forward - knowing Love Always Wins (thank you Charles Johnson)
