Black Archaeo aims to increase the engagement of urban Black and Brown people in archaeology, heritage, creative industries, ecology and natural spaces. We want to promote health, well-being and increased opportunities through education, community workshops, research, exhibitions, media and art practice.?
We had so much fun teaching on the UCL Institute of Archaeology and The Sutton Trust Summer School ?? After a lecture on Contemporary archaeology, the students put their knowledge into practice on a walk around Bloomsbury, making collages out of polaroids and found objects ???????
Journey through the social history and archaeology of the River Thames this September in our upcoming guided walk. This guided walk will start at Greenwich Peninsula, where you will discover sculptures along The Line, London and?their relationship to maritime and colonial histories, continuing on to the foreshore to learn about responsible and critical mudlarking.?We will then head to the?National Maritime Museum for object-handling from Royal Museums Greenwich. We are actively seeking to engage Black and Brown participants in this event to address the lack of diversity represented within the fields of archaeology and the art, heritage and cultural sectors more widely. This is a public event, and everyone is welcome.
