Congratulations to BKV Group's 2024 selected attendees for the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Women's Leadership Summit & NOMA Annual Conferences! Christina Pierson (Project Architect, Senior Associate) will be attending the AIA Women's Leadership Summit taking place next week in Chicago. Christina has demonstrated her dedication, commitment and aspirations to BKV and her continued growth as a professional. She makes things happen in all the work she’s involved in whether it’s on projects or on committees. Anca Ioana Gruita (Construction Administrator, Senior Associate) has also been selected to attend WLS. Ioana continues to demonstrate her leadership at a national level through her support of the Construction Administration team and the QA process. Mahkam Hashemi (Architectural Designer) has been selected to attend the NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects) Annual Exchange Conference in Baltimore at the end of October. Mahkam's personal experience coming from Iran, moving to a new country. learning a new language, and balancing career and motherhood are all testaments to her continued resilience and motivation as a professional. Each year, BKV invites designers from all disciplines to submit an application to attend these significant, industry-leading events, with the conference costs and travel fully funded in our continued effort to invest in our staff's on-going professional development. We are excited for next week's National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) Student Housing Conference in Las Vegas! There, our national student living thought leaders —?Jack Boarman, Ron Butler, and Kelly Naylor —?will be available to network with developers, owners, and operators. Contact our Director of Business Development in attendance at the event, Garick Malcom, to set up a meeting. Also, make sure to mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 8th from 3:20 - 4:05pm when Jack will be a featured panelist during the concurrent session titled "Designing for the Next Generation." Last week, BKV Group celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Shelby Commons! In collaboration with CRW architecture + design group, Inc and our developer partner, Woda Cooper Companies, Inc., Shelby Commons is an affordable housing community located in the North Loop neighborhood of downtown Minneapolis, creating 46 new affordable and supportive housing for families and individuals, with 12 units dedicated to people experiencing housing insecurity. At the September 26th event, we had the pleasure of the Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, attend and speak very highly of the project which provides much needed affordable housing in the area, and represents the first new project in the Root District (New Loop) of Minneapolis.?Congrats to the entire team on reaching this milestone! We have brand new photography of the recently opened Howard Lake Library, Minnesota’s first Net Zero library! The 7,000-square-foot public facility is located in the city’s newly created Central Park, and replaces the two-story building located a few blocks away, where the library has operated since 1979. The project’s design and construction complies with Minnesota’s statewide B3 Sustainability Building Guidelines, which encompass site, water, energy, indoor environmental quality, materials, and construction.?Its completion marks a truly watershed moment for the state of Minnesota and the many partners on the project dedicated to bringing to the Howard Lake community the highest-quality, most energy-efficient public library, which will serve as a center for education, programming, and socializing for decades to come.
